Driving steadily mine was reporting 42.1MPG, normally it's around 35-38MPG once warmed up.... I don't take too much notice of the MPG, I don't think it's exactly accurate....

My 16v used to get about 34+ on a run, if careful you could get it into the high 30's low 40's, then MAP sensor broke and I'd get 17mpg round town  8 if you spanked it... Sorted now, but have since got a mk2 16v and it's crap according to MFA but hardly seem to need to fill it up and a drive a fair bit so i dunno how accurate it is either.
Would agree with the good service/tyre pressures/ take crap out of boot but if you drive a fair bit you'd benifit from a 16v. I miss mine so much I'm putting the old ABF engine in my mk2....

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

i'd say i get good mpg out of the 16v in all honesty. bout 34 mpg on average an i've seen 42 on the mfa on a long journey.

Same with me, I managed 40mpg on the duel carriageway A roads coming back from work (about 30 miles) the other day

I went on a drive on New Years day around the coast of Northern Ireland in my 8v 5dr and I managed to get 40.3mpg at around 65mph.

When I drive normally from town to town I can get around 36 - 37mpg when ragging it I get about 24 - 26 depending on how hard I push the car.
