Like I said, this is based purely on etka numbers.  Who's to say that the ABF crank + pickup has not superceeded the old 9a crank?
2e, ADY & AGG crank are all the same part number, and also different to the ABF.

053 105 101 K - 2e, AGG, ADY
053 105 101 H - ABF, 9a

This suggests the 2.0 8v cranks are not the same as the 2.0 16v, but that does not mean they wont fit! Could just be slight casting differences or weights.
As I said before, ETKA says the ABF and 2e conrods are the same, but I have seen that they are different.  My guess is again there has been a part supercession which replaces one or the other, or both. You cant buy them singly from VAG either so this prob explains why they were happy to drop the part that was superceeded, no chance of a missmatch that way.

all the 2ltr cranckshafts are 92.8 mm stroke.  in that respect they are all the same.

oh  ABF and 9A pistons cannot at any point be the same, unless some 9A's are tall block and i think thats very unlikely

would piss me off somewhat if orders a ABF cranck and got one without toothed wheel,   as for ABF cranck fitting 9A   i'll try that later

it does say 'use trigger wheel if required' on etka. I guess ETKA is wrong then it does happen! the 9a were all short block.

Edit: Its not a crank sensor difference between 8v n 16v cranks, as the AGG also has a crank sensor, and that has same part listed as 2e, which does not.
Edit2: Heres the page, you can see if required you have to also order the trigger wheel n bolts:

Aha, the US bentley says the 9a is also 92.8 stroke:
