« on: 15 January 2009, 14:56 »
How much are we talkin for a full VW service on a 30k mile mk4 gt-tdi (130) approx
Oh i think it may well need front and rear disc's and pads, but prob just get a local garage to do that for me
And should i stick to standard brakes or upgrade(if its cheap enuff ?)
Cheers

30K isn't a full service it's an oil and filters service and maybe brake fulid depending on age (every 4 years, at which point you might need the cam belt too (60K or 4 years))

i think VW normally charges around £200 for a 10K service, but a local garage would do it for say £100

Are you on "variable interval service" interval then?  As all the PD engines were meant to have been changed to fixed, due to the cam wear problem, but if you've only ever had one service it might have slipped through the net.

What year is yours on?  As that is going to decide what needs to be done?

2004/53 plate

in that case, you're actually looking at a major service, as well as cam belt (4 years), brake fluid charged (4 years)
I think there are quite a few other bits, that i'd have to check the manual for, but i wouldn't expect much change from £500 given the VW prices.

when you take it in, i'd speak to them and check to see if yours should have been switched to fixed being a PD, as the fixed and variable use different oils, and AFAIK all the PDs should now be on fixed ie every 10K
