as title says but its fine once its warmed up. its for the 5-speed (085) gearbox

The're all buggers when the're cold, wouldn't worry too much unless it's a problem when warm. Just try moving the stick a tad slower into 2nd as its dead easy to ram it in from first all the time and they can be quite uncooperative when treated the wrong way. Rather like a lady woman.

My 020 box is fine even when its sub-zero. Perhaps yours could do with a bush kit change?

the bush kit didn't help mine
neither did the gearbox additive i was told to use
i'm just used to it now , never does it when the car is warm

085 gear linkage setup is totally different to the 1.6+ ones, but grab your gearstick & lift it upwards. If you have any play the housing under the car is worn, see the 2nd part of my linkage FAQ on how to fix it. A worn housing can effect the alignment
