1st Gear low speed judder? Assistance required.

Hello,

Can anyone help with this.

I have a 1992 K-reg GTI 8v.

The car has a very frustrating judder that only seems to be present in first gear.
Once into second the car appears to run ok.
My throttle cable is very stiff which does not make things easier.
After reading the posts my first thoughts are clutch cable or clutch.
I intend to do the following:
1) Remove Throttle cable and free or replace.
2) Check for free play at top of clutch and adjust replace as necessary.
3) If problem still exist consider a tune up,
Note: Air box removed and fitted with K N Filter

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

if it only does it when the engine is cold its because u have replace the standard air box with a K&N so there is no hot air feed
