Petrol in Oil ???

Hi guys , I have just bought a J plate 8 Valver 140 k on the clock ,
The car has been stood for around 18 months and upon smelling the dipstick there is a smell of petrol in oil , Is this normal for a standing car  or could it be a problem .
  I was gonna change oil and filter for cheap stuff , put some red X type stuff in it . Run for 50 miles of so then drop oil out againand put new oil and filter in 

     What you people think ,, New to this and need help please ,, Thanks in advance

Did you take it home on a trailer?
If yes, then do not forget to put some drops of oil through the plug holes and turn the engine over by hand BEFORE you try to start it.

Thats what I would do.

if it's a carb car with mecanical fuel pump that may want changeing,

depends how long the oil was in it before it was laid up & if it wastnt regulary serviced before hand

just change it and give it a whirl
