This post is making me twitchy, especially the photos and the clips .  What's the difference between an apr exhaust and a milltek one?  And do they do much in the way of a bhp increase, or is it mostly throttle response?  Would there be much of a difference on insurance if i had one fitted?

Have a look at some of the topics that I have started over recent months..they will give you an idea of what the APR is like. There are plenty of topics around that talk about the Milltek, so by the end you should have a good idea of what to expect!

Bhp increase depends on what you go for, i.e. just a catback system, or the downpipe and sport cat as well. Expect more bhp if you go for a full turbo-back system (which includes downpipe, sport cat and cat back). Some exhaust manufacturers quote as much as 17hp increase from a decent exhaust system combined with a remap to suit. I think it's reasonable to expect c. 8-10hp when combined with a map that takes into account of the new exhaust!

I have got the full Turbo-back APR RSC exhaust - and throttle response has been improved a lot!!!

Also bear in mind that LaserBlue has got the older APR system fitted - called the APR Stealth system. The RSC system replaced this. I have been told that there are subtle differences in the way that both sound.

Insurance - I'm with Greenlight and they charged no extra for the exhaust onto the policy. Also charged no extra for a remap and air intake!

Hope that helps!

That's great thanks for that info . Looks like I've got a lot of reading to do :nerd: I've recently renewed my insurance with bell but maybe I'll give greenlight a call, as I've heard bell aren't too keen with mods.

I did a quote with Bell, and asked them to add an exhaust. And it put the premium up by around £80

That's actually a small price to pay by the looks and sounds of things

My insurance doesnt cover BHP increases stiggy, so having a cat back system isnt classed as a bhp mod, its a stainless steel maintanance free modification and satisfys my insurance companys policy.
If you go for full system, meaning replacing downpipe and a sports cat and the rest of it, thats when you have to declare as a modification as has been said will give you approx 10hp increase.
Although what it does do along with a high flow airfilter is make the car alot more responsive. Improving the torque and not the HP.
meaning the car feels and sounds alot more alert.
Didnt hear the APR RSC last week but would say they are of simular sounding quality from what ive heard. They certainly make the smile factor alot more pleasing!!. I if were you, id save up for the catback if your worried about putting your premiums up, which they dont.

Thanks for the info Phil.  If I did go for an exhaust upgrade it would be for the full works.  I was under the impression it would make a considerable difference to the insurance but it doesn't acually seem to be too bad.  I guess a remap would make a big difference though, so i'll have to save that for later.  Besides the plan is to go for an advanced high performance car training day before i make drastic changes.  I've had the car for 2 years now (almost) and i keep reading and hearing about the potential of the engine/chassis - I can't hold off my "captain sensible" side for too long now!

Sorry for the slight thead hijack by the way.

Well, looks like i can be sensible and have fun at the same time  Rang greenlight insurance and they won't increase the premium for a full exhaust, remap up to +40bhp, suspension mods, brakes (except for big brake kits) and quaife diff.  And to top it off, it's the cheapest quote i've had so far!  So, roll on 2009 - looks like it's going to be a fun year
