Title: Looking good again and a couple of subtle mods
Post by: winrya on 14 December 2008, 13:06
The car has been looking worse for wear over the past 6 weeks.  No opportunity to wash it and a smashed fog light left it looking about as bad as ive seen it in the 3 years ive owned it.

I've added the black VW badge on the front which i think looks brilliant.  I wasnt sold on it until a few weeks ago, i was walking up to the car under street lights and looked at it and thought, the badge is ruining the angry looking front

I've also added the open grills which are not well captured in the pics, but with the badge I really feel they have fininshed the front off.  I'm really pleased with the car now, there isnt one part im not happy with.  Oh...............the fact that my rns-510 arrived with a dead HD, but that will be resolved shortly

Hope you all like the car

Looks swish! I washed my car 2 - 3 weeks ago and it looks horrendous now!

Where'd you get the black badge from?

I've been thinking about getting a black badge (not CF!) but then I feel I need to take the GTI off the front, otherwise it looks like a mishmash of styles.

Wow, that is one clean car. Agree the black badge finishes it off very nicely. Something VW should bring back to GTI as standard IMO

A guy on ebay makes them up in satin or matt finish for £30 delivered.  Really happy with the quality.  His username is tom_barker123.  He makes them to order

Great photos ... car looks better than it left the showroom

That's a very "wet look" finish you've got on the paintwork ... what wax / LSP do you use ?

Hi,

I've also got a Black GTI - A quick question, if I may: How have you got a 'metallic' look to the bottom of your rear bumper/valence? have you had it re-sprayed or is it a new part?

usually people DIY job the badge, cheaper that way, all you have to do (very basically) is sand back the silver, prime it and then spray! not too hard if your patient

Its an edition 30 valance, sprayed and blended, as well as the skirts and front splitter

Thanks.  I machine polished it with menzerna polishes over 2 years ago to get a swirl free finish, since then I've just been looking after it with lots of products.  The nicest finish IMO is from pinnacle sovereign wax (about £40) but it only lasts a few weeks and is no use in the winter.  Its actually wearing a cheap all in one product in meguiars NXT tech wax 2.0 which is one of my favourite products.  Its a cleaner, glaze and sealent and leaves a lovely glossy finish.  Add to that the fact it was applied 8 weeks ago and didnt need anything yesterday and I'm very very pleased

They are oem mate.  I've always looked after them but at 3 years they were showing signs of white worm on the very edges but i was lucky enough that vw replaced them all for me so they are brand new

The liquid wax mate.  Make sure you give it plenty of time to dry, especially in this weather!!!! Its then much easier to remove
