Title: Your opinions please..
Post by: Benrevs on 13 December 2008, 19:52
The car is going away next week to have the bay painted in a more suitable place than my garage and I want your opinions on whether I should just get the car done whilst I am there.  The car is pretty much down to its shell anyway and considering it had a new paint job only 2 years ago it wont take much to prep it.  I know its my call and all but your views count also!

Im thinking either a brighter white, a dark grey or orange as below(I love that colour)!

I have a set of bumpers and trim ect prepped for paint also.  Not sure if I am going to like the colour coded trim but I can swap them back easy enough.  If im going to do it... now would be the time as the unit is only available for a month.  Cheers, Ben.

If its down to the shell already, its worth undersealing the underside (if its not done already) and arches.

If it isn't going to cost you too much to do it, then why not - nows the time to make it the colour you want.

Is the amount of prep worth replacing 2 yr old paint though; I guess it depends on the condition.

Its all got sealed up when painted before.  Well I prepped it and half painted it last time so I know there is no rust under there etc..  Just a few dings that have accumulated over the years. All it will take is a good scotchbrite and a skim here and there. Its going to cost me about £30(materials) so price isnt a problem!

100% your choice but things to consider

1, how long are you planning in keeping it - a standard colour is easier to sell on

2, standard top nick motors are getting rarer by the day

3, one off paint scheme, - does it effect insurance ????

hope that confuses your choice further

I declared mine being a non-std colour and it didn't make any difference.

Thanks Chuff, just made it so much easier for me..
Well my thinking is it will never be 100% mint so the colouring isnt that important, and I plan on keeping it for the forseeable future as there is no way im letting it go soon with all the work ive done on it!!
As for the insurance, they think my car is a 1.1... and not a 2.8.  Nah only messing im not that shady!
