Title: Can't figure out how to replace the Jack! (blush)
Post by: No Golf Clubs at all on 12 December 2008, 10:35
Ok I am a complete dipstick......a small stone got lodged between the brake disc and the tin cover, made a terrible racket..I could not shake it loose, I had no option but to jack up the car, remove the wheel and get the offending little sh1t out of there....

I did not pay attention to how the jack actually is meant to fir back in the polystyrene under the boot carpet....Ok I will admit I was no good at the Krypton Factor....does anyone have a pic of the set up so I can stop my jack rattling around in the boot?   :embarassed:

Its all made worse for me, cos theres a big nasty sub woofer in the boot as well...it doesnt like being moved around....Plllleaseee help....

hahaha!!!!!! I had this exact problem, i think my jack still isn't sitting right to this day!

I'm also like you, the sub is sitting in the boot, and I really can't be arsed to take it out to put the jack back in properly!

Good luck !

Wind the jack all the way in and then fold the handle to the right hand side (when the handle is at your end!) the foot of the jack goes to the end farthest away from you in the mouding and to the right, so the handle should then also be on top. Press firmly and the jack should push fit in. :nerd:

It doesn't go back, you can only use it once and throw it away. Afraid you will have to buy a new one

Komenda, every time I see alloys, I fall in love. What ones are they?

I'll go out later on and have a look see if there's something that you might've missed.

okay so I had a look. Took the jack out, opening it up a bit and closed it and put it back without problems.

1. Close the jack fully until you get resistance on the handle (doesn't need to be too tight or you'll have difficulty opening it next time).
2. Rotate the jack as needed so that the screw is facing you (ie you can see the whole length of the screw) and the white bit is closest to you and the flat angle furthest from you.
3. The handle folds to the left of the jack as you look at it. You may need to tighten/loosen the jack accordingly.
4. Now the jack is compact, hold the jack so that long part of the screw is facing the right side of the boot (where there's a little pocket in the boot) and then rotate 90 degrees so the long screw is now facing you.
5. Put the jack into its slot. The handle should be touching the bottom of the slot. The angle should be to the right. The long screw should be facing the seats.

Diagrams to follow (i forgot to take my phone with me)

Can't believe instead of revising, I'm telling someone how to put the jack back.

Okay, the first figure shows how the jack looks as you hold it in your hand. The screw part should face you and the handle on the left.
The second figure shows how the jack should look once it's in place. Ignore the angle (I can't remember whether it faces up or down but you should be able to match it with the slot).

If it won't slide easily into it's slot, you might not have closed the jack fully. Retry.

I can't believe that instead of revising, I am looking at instructions on how to put the jack back, when it turns out that mine is actually in there correctly!

I love those alloys - they work fantastically with silver GTI. Dunno how they'd look on black.

Joe has BBS GT on his car and they look the muts so I reckon LM's will work. Pictures don't always give a true representation. Quite like the matt black though.

That blue tint is the Diadem indicator bulbs, appear a bluey silver colour when off but flash orange.
