I did some research online for an aux in adaptor for the RCD headunits, since I can't afford an RNS one and I hate the look of my Sony one.
Found this proeduct by Connects2:

And this installation guide:

Can't wait to try it out. I really do like the look of the OEM headunit, but it's lack of an aux in was really annoying and since I don't own an Ipod I couldn't use the Ipod adaptor.
If anyone else has done this or is going to try it out let me know how you get on .

Nice little idea.
Those installation instructions are slightly diffrent for the MK5 golf as they dont just pop out like that, you have to remove to top ventilation bit first. A quick google search for replacing your HU will show you how to remove it, its not that tricky (just dont unplug the airbag sensor as it will generate a fault and it will need clearing with VAGCOM)

I currently have a 6 cd multi changer in my arm rest, would I be able to still use this and install this? So I have best of both worlds then?
Or is the bit at the back already used by the multi changer? I know I can get the ipod in my armrest but its too faffy, I'd rather have something just under the steering so I can flick albums easier.
Look really good does that good cheap option

I remember reading a thread on one of the American forums where a guy wired to the SAT Radio slot. I have no idea what that is but apparently it worked. I'll try and find the link for you.

I don't know what a SAT radio is or if that will work on UK models, but it could be worth a shot.
