yeah its a tad lairy for me too, though having said that I think I have warmed to the aggressive looks since its launch...but that interior looks sooooo, errr Korean...

Kind of looks like they had a budget to upgrade the car...spent all the money on the flash exterior and ran out of cash

I wonder if that steering wheel would fit a Golf?
Title: Re: Cupra poverty spec interior
Post by: AlanD on 08 December 2008, 15:39
MK5 stearing wheel imo is one of the best.

Is that really the best centre console with. Even a Micra does better than that, I never knew they were so bad

I can't stand the look of the mk2 Leon! Looks like a bloated pig  :undecided:
I love the mk1 Leon though. If I didn't have the Golf I'd have one

exterior is nice quite like the bodykit TBH, interior is as everyone else has said pants! it shouts 'budget' motor if you know what i mean.

All Seats are budget interiors, the Altea i test drove for 30 Yards was enough for me a while back

Its a shame, they go like stink but its why you pay 3 grand less then a vw for one.

Post by: DanGB on 08 December 2008, 23:53
interiors are cheap yes, but I saved a good few ground over a buying a GTI, which is mechanically the same ;)

more to spend on mods...

LOL! I'd say the mk5 Golf is a budget interior, compared to previous generations of Golfs! squeaks and rattles anyone? looks like they (VW) are addressing it though with the mk6 interior.
Going back to the Seat discussion, Mk1 LCR was basically an Audi S3 dash, so how is that budget?

Post by: neg on 09 December 2008, 00:20
MK1 Leon wasnt too bad - well the LCR model, Mk2 interior is what put me off buying one, steering wheel has a nice feel to it and the seats were great ( in the Cupra).

I wouldnt say the mk5 golf is worse than the mk4 though

I wasnt referring to the mk1 sixpot, the mk2 for me is pants, cheap spanish plastic!

Ditto what everyone says. The dash on the Seat is truly rubbish, one reason why i payed that bit more to get the GTI. Good spec car the Leon Cupra. Good brakes and at that time xenons were included. Only options i remembered needing were the satnav and ipod connection, but they had no candy white at the time
Even the skoda Octavia Vrs, costing under £16k has a nicer interior than the Seat, anyone notice?

agree about the Skoda Octavia VRS. Interior is alot nicer and build quality is very good.Good family car if you need bigger space then a golf.

hhmm but you would buy or let someone buy a Vauxhall??

I owned a MK2 Leon FR and while the dash isn't great it has a lot of other ++++++, the mk5 dash isnt the best either.I refused to buy the mk5 GTI on its release day as the dash was awfull even now I am not 100% with it.The mk2 Cupra is a lot of car for the money standard moddified it beats the ED30.

the new mk2 just looks wrong, my mate has the tdi fr, its fully loaded with all the toys you could ever want but it doesnt look half as good as the mk1 did. I think the Cupra R was one of the best looking hot hatches about and still is

I do love the Mk2 Cupra (in CW with black rims of course). But again I am another one that was put off with the big, massive grey dash centre..
Can't say i'd be gutted if I owned one though..

I agree in its time compared to the Mk4 Golf the LCR was a great car and you got a lot for your money, no question about it.  Starting to look a little aged now though - loved the time in mine but started to show it at 3yrs old with 85k on the clock

I wouldnt turn one down - the thing that stopped me getting one was moving from company car to private car.

i went from a MK5 GTI to New civic type R to Mk5 R32 and now have a cupra K1, yes the dash is crap but the car 6 months ago cost me Just under 19k with a few toys compared to the ed 30 that would of been around 24k. Don't get me wrong i really do prefer the Mk5 GTI/R32 in lots of ways but in terms of car for your money you can't really go wrong, as already said in standard form it is also quicker to 60 and quicker to 0 again!!!!

My last 'show'car was a mk 1 Leon with a grand total of 12.5k miles on it when I sold it at 4 years old!!

I wouldnt say the interior is "that" bad. Yes, I agree, the centre part of the dash is awful, but the seats are better in the Cupra than those in the GTi and Edition 30. The rest, in my opinion, is on a par.

Mechanically, the Cupra is superior to the Edition 30 as well with the bigger brake set up. It just didnt come with the DSG box option.

Pay your money and take your choice. I bought the Cupra and for the most part I am quite happy with it.

One thing I would say though is that the Cupra is better without the awful Aero bumpers though....

but this can be sorted for £500 i would take the gti any day and i am an cupra r owner it was just the dash that let it down for me

Yessir, it's the centre that completely let's it down for me. But also the less than tactile nature of the plastics. Seat made a conscious and hard business descision in this area, I would love to see the meeting minutes  all down to costs but speaking personally and personally speaking it's the dash I see more of than the outsides, therefore I just had to take my monies elsewhere.....perhapsa a focus group in espania said it was ok?......el muppetoes.  :lipsrsealed:

I've been looking at the audi s3 as a replacement for my gti.  Im not 100% on the looks but the interior and 4 wheel drive make it up for me.  I also looked at the cupra as it seemed like such a bargain but as soon as i opened the door i immediately closed it.  I'm not spending that amount of money on such a low rent interior.  If it was a kia or hyundai at korean prices i could accept it, but i could never make the step back to the leons interior, its a step backwards.

Also worth noting, every comparison ive read of the cupra has always placed it behind the gti stating the ride is too hard and it doesnt handle as well.  Evo and top gear mag both said the same and top gear mag said the octavia and leon had cheaper suspension/steering components hence them not being as good to drive???

yeah i dont think the dash is that bad tbh, seats are nice and you get good value for money which in these times is what its all about

my mates has the sat nav, blue tooth, dual climate and shed loads more, cost him alot less than a standard tdi golf. Not keen on the looks still but he loves it

I think the Cupra is an awesome car for the money and I nearly bought zenith grey one when they frst came out but not get my head around owning a seat! I wish my ed30 had came standard with the Cupra/R32 brakes!

Are the interior dimensions the same like the A3 and Golf. If so you could drop a VW or Audi interior into one. Probably not worth doing right now as the cars are relatively new, but when they start getting on a bit it could be an option. Seen enough of both cars being broken for their to be enough parts knocking about in the future.
