Hi there,
I have had a water leak and I assumed the head gasket was on it's way out but on closer inspection there was water seeping out of a connector at the front of the head, and when I applied a little pressure o it water gushed out
The part houses the 2 temp sensors with 3 water pipes coming from/into it. It is bolted to the front of the cylinder head and is held in by 2 10mm bolts
Firstly what is the housing called? Should there be a gasket there and where is the best place to get it all from.
Cheers
Alex

It's called the water flange and they can crack/warp then leak. Do a search, very common problem. There isn't a gasket. Just an O ring. Make sure you get one with the replacement if it doesn't come with it.
You can get them from VW or from German Swedish. I got mine from GSF. Can't remember the exact cost but it was under a tenner. Mine is an 8V. Don't know if other models are different.
Might be an idea to replace the O rings for the two sensors too while it's all in bits. Don't do up the bolts too tight on the new flange or you might damage it and it could leak again! I think they only need to be 10Nm.

I would defo get the geniune part, they dont cost that much more and having done both plastic head flanges on mine I speak from experiance

I put a little bit of gasket sealant around the outside of the o-ring as well for extra protction.

ame as above, the first GSF one fell apart, so got a genuine one form the stealers. Easy fix but.
