Title: Stopping power
Post by: floggot16v on 08 June 2004, 16:00
Hi all, just had a pair of 256mm combi discs given, what parts do i need to fit them? Have read lots of different ways of doing conversion, but which is the simplest.??
Mine is an 8v. have read that you need the caliper mounts off an audi 90, calliipers off a 16valver or post 88 passats. My local breakers has a 89 passat in. Is what i have read true?
There is a lack of valvers in the breakers, so i am kind of stuck as to what is simplest and best option...
Any help, advice on this would make me a happy dubber.
any parts that anyone has for sale would be even better.
Thanks again.
Woody

The hub carriers (wheel bearing housing's) on the 8v and early spec 16v have integral carriers, so for the upgrade you'll need the following:

Hub carriers
Hubs
Caliper Carriers
Calipers
Ball joints
Wheel bearings (best to renew while off the car)
Discs
Splash Guards (not essential)

I think you'll be able to use the parts off a passat, but I'm not sure, also if you're interested I've got a pair of 16v hub carriers.

Cheers m8, noticed that my carriers were one peice, yet my older 86 golf had bolt on 1s. knew i should have kept the front strus etc, scrapped it 2wks ago..    >:(
You pointed out 1 thing i hadn't thought of, splash guards..
I am off to breakers in morning, so i will have a good measure and look around for my parts list.
I will let ya know bout carriers, if i can't find any, i will be in touch.
Much appreciated bud, cheers for your time.
out of interest, how much for carriers?
Tek care..
