Post by: JonnyG on 05 December 2008, 10:54
Looks like they have sold six of the seven dealerships to Sytner though :

I am sorry of course for the people in the branch, but unless dealerships start to expect to make less profit and change their paradigms about buying and selling cars then many more will go to the wall....

It's becoming all too familiar, down here the Seat and Honda dealer Amethyst shut up shop giving the staff 15min notice, they had showrooms in 3 towns according to the local press, also read a Lexus dealer is closing a couple of showrooms.

There's part of me that says it's about time the greedy dealers got their come uppance, Ifeel sorry for the staff, but we as car owners will no doubt pay for it in the end.

Looks like the one close to me is ok ?.Very smart looking building that looks more like an airport lounge than a car dealership.Must have spent a fortune on it as it's only been open a couple of years.

this is the beginning of the end.

all that will be left is a few faceless car supermarkets in a few years.

Let's hope Sytner can improve the customer service at the 5 dealerships they have taken over.

I lost confidence in the Leeds dealership a while ago, when their customer service became so unhelpful.

The final straw was finding out I could get my standard 1st service £100 cheaper at a nearby Wakefield VW dealer (and thare was no mistake about whether it was a Longlife service or not, as I was quoted for both services by both dealers ).

I do feel sorry for the Otley/Menston staff who have lost their jobs though, awful timing just before Christmas and no redunancy / compensation or anything

I just don't believe the attitude of dealers up here in the north (Scotland), many are still in denial and are still trying to screw punters left right and centre.  For example, I was offerred £9.5k for my car against an 06 R32 dsg with 20000 miles...the stealer insisted his car was correctly priced at £16990 and refused to budge!

I pointed out that MP had 08 models for a tenner dearer, ffs...he has had the car on his lot for about 4 months and it is depreciating by the day!

Now the dealer would take my car, and put it on his lot for £12k...making £3k.

He probably bought the  R at auction or as a trade and paid £12-13k, therefore trying in total to make say £8k on the overall deal.

I was willing to pay about £3k and my car.....but this butt hole decides that a potential £6k is not enough profit for him so allows me to walk away and his overpriced R sits on his forecourt unloved and depreciating by the second..

If they all don't wake up and stop trying to use the old model of doing business in this climate then many many more will hit the skids.  There is no such thing as a SH1T deal...it is all counted as revenue people, wake up and smell the cheap coffee.

Oh btw, motorpoint (mp) yesterday had about a dozen sales assistants chatting noisily about how slow business was AND despite the fact that there were about 12 punters walking around not ONE of the sales people made an effort to go and discuss the customers requirements.......

I guess the situation will slowly dawn on stealers in the north, wrap up well guys there is a cold wind coming your way.
