I have a Mk2 8v 1989 - the MFA reads 99.9 on mpg all the time. I have checked for leaks and all OK.
Does anyone know where the speed sensor is located?

This should help you:-

Thanks,
Sounds like a vacumn sensor fault as the average speed indication works fine.
Great site by the way - V useful

Does anyone know what the website said?
I have the same thing. MPH work, but MPG is 99.9mpg!
-
Hi, i think you need to take the clock out and see if the vacuum pipe that connects to the clock has come off or not if its come off thats your problem just put it back and should work fine.

I reconnected it, but it still says 99.9. Do I have to disconnect the battery and reset the whole thing?
-
Think you can reset it by taking the fuse out for 30 seconds i think i read on here somewhere.
-
There's a thing about this on VWVortex, if i can find it again ill post it, that site is like a black hole for re-finding things though!
-
Oldest dig ever, but I also want the answer.
-
you can reset the mpg but holding the slider on the wiper stalk over to either side for a couple of seconds. Should go back to: --- then bring up a reading as you start driving
-
Does that mean pushing the button in if I don't have a slider?

mine was stuck like that for a long time, turned out to be the sensor on the back of the clocks, so I got one from a scrapyard golf. It was a pretty easy swap as I recall

I think I should mention that the swingometer in the top of the dash with the shift light  works. Just the 99.9 It's an A reg 8V gti
