I ended up buying a Seat Cordoba recently (2.0 SX which shares the Golf Mark 3 16V 2.0 engine of course) and was wondering what I could do to improve power output slightly without going mad or breaking the bank. Which air-filter or induction is recommended for this engine? Is it easily chipped and if so where can I find one? Is there anything else I'm forgetting.
If the car feels a little sluggish (fully serviced at main dealer) what is the most obvious thing to check.
Thanks guys.

K&N do a good induction kit, put a sports exhaust on too.
Chipping it should give you 170bhp.
If car is unresponsive try checking static ignition timing.

Thanks pal - I'll get started ;D

Have decided not to be so drastic yet. ANyone had experience of the Pipercross air filter? Recommended or not as a basic start?
-
my mate has one on his 16v, good note, but in winter he needed to take it off due to badly running. apart from that spot on

after market air filters produce a nice noise but not much else. Likewise, chipping will gain around 10bhp. no real gains for a s/s exhaust but if you whack it all together, you'll have a top sounding engine with modest power gains.
-
whats the deal with 'panel filters' over classic air filters?
-
Performance induction kits produce a decent improved mid range performance as well as a nice noise.
No point using a performance panel filter unless you are gonna drill the airbox.

:D
i had a piper X induction kit on my 206gti and it made a nice diffrence in throttle response!
sounds nice to,
for 80quid there well worth IMO ;)

There are are number of people that post on various internet forums saying that these filters just make a noise, this is simply untrue, don't expect miracles but they do make the engine rev better and the throttle response is greatly improved.

Ive had a K&N on mine for a few months now. It hasnt given me extra rocket powerd performance, BUT the engine revs much more freely through the whole rev range.
It sounds great when you want to boot it and remains quiet when normal. (sounds monster on a VR!)
Its a cheap mod to start with and will compliment anything else you may want to add.
I had a big list of stuff I was gonna do, but a house purchase put an end to that (a wise man puts money away from the eye of the Missus)
Good luck ;)

::)
got to agree with you there mate
(dont let the missus know when you get some extra wedge ;))
