I'm thinking of respraying my mk2 5 door 91 valver Royal Blue as it's getting a bit tatty, and I thought if i'm going to take it to bits and make it 'as new' I may as well do a proper job.
I'll either do it myself or get a mate who works in a bodyshop and does resprays from home on the side.
So, How much in litres will I need for a complete respray, how may coats of paint and laquer, how much will the paint cost, and where can I get it from if it's true (from my search) the VW has deleted it from dealership supply. And if I have to go to Halfrauds to get a colourmatch made up, is it any good?
Much appreciated.

Respray includung door shuts, under bonnet, and appetures etc in basecoat metalic, 3 ltrs paint, 2 ltrs lacquer plus thinner and hardener
the same as above for a topcoat system, ie, non metalic without lacquer, would be 3ltrs of paint, 1 1/2 ltrs of hardener plus thinner.
costs can be cut by only priming the areas that have had repairs carried out, basecoating those areas, then lacquer the whole car.
A total respray of the entire bodyshell, allow 5 ltrs of colour and 4ltrs of lacquer, plus the hardener
Insurance companies allow £80 to £140 per panel for materials, depending on the size of the panel, so this can get expensive!! always try and leave at least 1/2 a ltr paint for any mishaps that may occour
your local motor factor should be able to mix up any colour you like, and also advise on any coverage/opacity issues that may occur with that particular colour... some colours "cover" better than others
hope this helps...
