Title: The saga continues.....
Post by: VWnut on 06 June 2004, 13:45
A while back i posted on here complaining that my Mk1 1.8 gti cabrio's engine was hunting, badly. This afternoon i noticed that my fuel pump was making a very loud whining noise (louder than it should be). It has been doing this for a while now but today i noticed that when the fuel pump stesses the engine revs fluctuates (revs fluctuate between 300-900 rpm). I'm guessing that when the fuel pump is stressing this is causing a poor fuel delivery thus causing the fluctating idle. Is this the case as i believe the fuel pump should work continuosly regardless of engine speed therefore it must be the fuel pump causing the poor idle????
If anybody has any input to this i would be grateful as i'm about to buy a new fuel pump and don't want to waste my money.
Cheers
Tom

try replacing the pump in the fuel tank first, most of the time it is that that causes teh other pupm to be working so hard
