If you had 11 grand to spend and the car has to be 18 months or less old, what would you buy?
-
Other than a golf ?
If i was being sensible then either a V6 x-type Jag or a Saab 93
On the other hand 11k would get you a hand-built shiny little Westfield, 0-60 in sub 5 secs ? yes please ;D
-
A Jag less than 18 months old for 11k? ???
-
I didn't mean no golfs, any cars (including vw's)
-
yea i was surprised too, but there's plenty on autotrader.co.uk
-
what about low mileage golf 1.8T ??
-
is your car that broken that you sre thinking about getting another 6? :o
-
you could just about get a 4motion for that, there are about 5/6 within that range (inc. one passat one..)
2001 X Reg VOLKSWAGEN Golf 2.8 V6 4MOTION Total Vehicle Solutions 5 Doors, Manual 6 speed, Hatchback, Petrol, 59,000 miles, Reflex silver Metallic, 1 Owner. 18" RS Alloys, Climate control, ABS, CD Multichanger, Central locking, Computer, Electric mirrors, Electric . . . . (trade)
nice :)
-
:D
whats the deal 6?
you getting rid of the vr?
if i had that kind of money i wouldnt be looking for a car that had to be 18months or less, id look for a mint older car.
the things i had in mind would be:
e36 bmw m3, you could get a nice s plate for that money! :D
ltd edition fiat coupe turbo-real nice 8)
leon cupra?
audi s3?
audi a3 1.8t sport?
a really nice golf 1.8t?
i would consider all of those in that order if i had 11k :o
nice money to be spending on a car. ;)
but why does it have to be 18months old or less? ???
-
Duno how much they go for but what about a Subaru?
Had one a few weeks ago and boeyyy did it fly! Overtaking cars was done in a split second :o
-
11k would get you you a very nice Octavia vRS (presuming your not a badge snob). Very tunable and very good fun plus leather and air con. And a lot of car for the money. New and on the road - ?15,750 BARGIN! I was considering one for my work car.
Good luck
-
A trailer to put on the back of my company car so I can keep the miles down on my golf ;)

I am not a badge snob these days. When I had the A3, I went to Skoda Twickenham as I had booked a test drive in the vRS. I was embarresed when I parked the Audi up and went in the showroom. I quietly said I would like to take one out and he gave me the keys and off I went. Once inside these cars you have nothing Skoda about them. Its all VW/AUDI. The only thing that I don't like about them it the design of the badge. They deperatly need to reinvent that design. It is ugly, to say the least.
Took it on to the A4 in Brentford and let it have it, very responsive and and very quick. Felt comfortable and loved being redlined. Round corners a little movement on the rear but satisfactry.
IMO a very good car for the money. Might try to get a Fabia out and give that a thrash! 8)
Anyway, go for it................. book a test drive and I will be confident you will be pleased with the ride.
-
buy a banger and keep the change :D
-
I agree with Martz, the octavia with the tt lump is the way forward..
loads of potential to chip / tune upgrade etc but with vw/audi build quality and all the mod cons....
and even for badge snobs, there must be somehting really satisfying in leaving people standing in a skoda..... ;D
-
Does the Skoda have the 4 wheel drive system too? If so then i must say I'd be tempted ....
(and Gav check your PM's or u just ignoring me ;))
-
::)
no there only FWD unfortunately! :(
but there real nice,
there was a mad one in performance vw a couple of months ago,
with little mods they can go like stink and they look cool to. 8)
-
'6 theres a nice nova for sale on this site ;)
-
whats the deal then?
has 6 gone out and brought a passat?
i notice that the beloved vr6 is for sale in the sales section! :o
for only 3.5k!
sound like a bargaint to me, pity i just brought my 16valver :-\
-
A Passat it is :D

you have mail ;)
-
A Passat it is :D
which variant ya go for? :)
-
Would have gone for the Seat Leon 20vT myself mate - fast and big enough for your family.
Which Passat did you go for then?
(oooh, Honda Accord TypeR??? ;))
-
Can't get a Seat Leon 18 months old for under 11k.
I have gone for a Passat 2.0S, only 130bhp :'(
But it is only just a year old :D ;)
-
induction kit, bore it out a lil.. supercharger.. new cam.. lmao :D
20v isnt it? :)
-
Nah, 16v.
0-60 9.9 secs
130mph top speed
It should be good on the motorway, maybe a bit slow around town.
They are bloody huge cars! :D
-
you'd never have lived it down if it were an 8v :D
so the engines not much diff than the ABF in my valver?
-
Don't really know mate, i'm not up on new vw engines.
I expect it is similar, it is detuned for the fleet market, ie. low emissions.
Its very different to what i am used to, in effect its very much like an Audi A4.
Very posh ;)
-
We have a Passat (53 reg) estate. It is the diesel 130BHP version. Its funny when you have a boy racer next to you coz you scare them!
Good choice of car though, personally I would have gone TDi as it is performance and cheaper.
Nice one!
-
I did fancy a diesel, but the 2.0 was the only one in the price range :D
-
::)
guess you wont be racing any 8valves in it then :D
-
::)
so what the hell made you get a boring passat? ??? :D
-
::)
guess you wont be racing any 8valves in it then :D
uh its faster and more powerful than a 8v ( < 10 secs to 60.. lmao)
two cams are better than one ;D
-
::)
it isnt as quick
passat 0-60 9.9 secs
8valve 0-60 8.5 secs easily,
that mite even trouble your mk316v :-[
so if i were you id keep :-X
:-* :-*
-
next person to post a 0-60 time anywhere on the site is a willy-woofter...
-
mk2 16v 0-60 7.9 secs 8)
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
(http://xsco.net/global/img/memo/nopriv_homo.jpg)
;D
Seriously though, 0-60 is a totally inadequate benchmark to compare cars in real world situations, and has started far too many pointless debates around here. Yes we all know VW are conservative with thier printed figures, and we all know that some 8v's are faster than others (some 8v's are faster than some 16v's Ed/Mark :D ). If people feel their car is faster than book, fine.. but those same people should stay hush until they have real timed figures with accurate timing gear, and not "i was counting the cd player display.."
Chris :-*
-
lol :D......................
your not coming at me are you? ;)
sounds like your getting shirty?
there is no need! :D
0-60 is the old skool way to test performance, some people stand by it, some dont.
it is a pretty good way to test how fast your car is
i agree, in real world situations it is inadequote, but im jus talkin bout 0-60 times, ok?
:-*
-
nah mate, i dont do shirty, just trying to save everyone having to witness another 22 page dispute of guesstimated 0-60 posts :-*
its enough to make you want to buy a corsa :o
-
just to point out the vw time for the mk2 8v is 10 secs
the new passat is 9.9 ;)
you can't say one is quicker than the book time, as the other is also likely to be quicker.
:-*

From VW:
Pferdest?rken 130
Engine cubic capacity 1999
Fuel Consumption
Urban 24.4mpg - 11.6l/100km
Extra-urban 46.3mpg - 6.1l/100km
Combined 34.9mpg - 8.1l/100km
Engine emissions 194g/km
Engine noise levels 74.0dB
Engine maximum Speed 126mph - 204km/h
Engine acceleration 0-62mph 10.3secs
Maximum output PS 130
at RPM 5700
Maximum torque 144 lbs.ft / 195 Nm

Insurance group rating 12
From Parkers:
2.0 S (130ps) 5d 1984/4 130 121 11.5 34 202 12
but if you drill holes in the bonnet it will make it lighter. and improve the air flow. which will make it 132.73 bhp and 0-60 in 9.9793 seconds. sorted
-
John,
You quoted the wrong one from parkers, its a saloon.
2.0 S (130ps) 4d 1984/4 130 130 9.9 34 194 12
:-*

Sorry Corin, that makes my figures out. I am assuming for these figures, 20 litres of petrol in the tank (Tesco's cleaner unleaded), a warm 22 degree C day and just you in the drivers seat. 0-60 time will now be 9.9632 seconds. Obviously, with junior in the back the time would be affected by 0.0102 secs.
-
dont really care mate, its more like a luxury cruise then a brute :D
-
better not wear any jewellry and leave your mobile at home, youll loose a good 0.03secs off the 0-60 ;D
-
:D
so a change of name is on the cards as well then?
from golf vr6 to....... pisshat........ doh! :D
i meen passat 2.0? :D :D :D
