my car failed its mot today  reg bulb, welding  and my  nearside rear brake load sensing vavle linkage has seized! what the hell is that??? and how can i unseize it????
-
Do they mean the rear bias valve? If so there should be a few posts about it on here.
-
mine passed today... with a page full of advisories
there are advantages to working for a car spares company with workshop and MOT testing station
i had to keep mr MOT tester topped up with coffee!
-
The bias valve is easy to spot, it sits near the rear axle on the n/s - follow the brake pipes into it!
You can the usual WD40 it to death approach, or buy a new one for about £30
Looks like this (when new): (http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/images/357612151.jpg)

cheers guys. well you know how it is, christmas comin up. ill try the cheap option...wd40 here i come
-
Use wd40 and a rubber mallet on the bias valve.
-
DON'T use WD-f*cking-40 on it!
Use something that *actually* has an effect - Plusgas, or another penetrating fluid. You will have much better results.
When you get the brake unions cracked off you may want to rock them back and forth to make sure the union is separated from the pipe - nothing worse than twisting off the end of one of your brake pipes, is there?
-
Nothing wrong with using WD40 at all.
The valve probably won't even need replacing, i've sorted several before by just using wd40 and a rubber mallet to free it up.
-
Yeah it will free up with some lube and a good clean to get all the crap and rust out of the linkage
-
Nothing wrong with using WD40 at all.
There's EVERYTHING wrong with WD-40 - it has very little effect and costs quite a lot. Use a proper lubricant for the situation, not some panacea that just makes you feel as if you're doing some good.
-
who sells the new bias valves? vw?
-
read something interesting on a wd40 can while looking for some plus gas
it will clean crayon off your walls ?
-
could try a cheap 2nd hand one...?

when you have freed it off stick some grease on it :smug: :smug:
otherwise you will have to free it of again soon

I am with DH where WD40 is concerned. Everytime I hear someone mention spraying WD40 on ignition systems, I cringe. It may work initially, but dried WD40 attracts moisture causing problems in the future. Then people just add more to cure the fault they initially caused with the same stuff!
Although WD40 can act as a penetrating fluid, it aint brill. Plus gas, mouse milk or other very low viscocity penetrating fluid is much better as they have better creeping qualities. So for those really rusted fasteners, WD40 may not be sufficient.
-
i dont know where i would be without the good old wd40, i use it a hell of a lot at work and it has never let me down, much like cable ties! any way just free it off and it wont cause you anymore hassle for a good few years to come
-
wd40 smells nicer , plus gas seems better at everything else tho
-
GT85 smells the best, but is that any good ie. better to use than wd40 or just the same?
-
WD40 is a bi-product of rocket fuel.
Just a peice of useless information for you!
-
So its good for lighting fires?
-
this stuff is great we use it at work
