Title: Looking to get into the GTi game
Post by: scottishpedro on 26 November 2008, 20:45
Living in Scotland i'm slightly limited by choice.  Test drove an 8v last night which I may have bought on the spot if the brakes had worked... at all.  Any one have any thoughts about this car?

If I could get it down to a grand would that seem a fair price?

Thanks

sss oww 5 door

Looks pretty straight. Price wouldnt be too bad but i would get a full tank of fuel and at least 6 months road tax with that. If you like it...go for it.

I know your limited but maybe worth a look...

Thats definately better than the one with no breaks that you looked at although i usually find cars on piston heads a tad over priced. I would go for it as it's only had 2 owners ect, but deffinately try and knock the price down. I bet if you waved a grand under his nose he would bite your hand off.
I also think that the ones Blue threw up look good and are worth considering. Other than that, unless your in a rush, wait a bit longer and increase your radius. You will have more choice if you are prepared to travel a bit as most people on here have done just to find the right one.
Hope this helps

I think that one looks great. If its got zero rust,  which is how it appears, and it runs as well as the ad says, I would be happy to pay £1000 for it all day long.

I have asked a lot of questions and the chap seems to be able to answer almost all of them with something reassuring.  He says there are 4 or 5  5p coin sized rust bubbles on the front doors.  Going to have a look tomorrow.  Small rust bubbles a maor concern?

£500+ for a 8v mk2 golf? no thanks.

scotland or not, there's plenty to choose from. easily get one cheaper. if you can, remove the skirts, especially if it's a big bumper before buying. seller probably won't be too chuffed mind you - but you don't want to buy a rusty shell, even though on the tip of the iceberg it's ok.

Na! easily sorted. Check the engine bay for rust though. The place where the battery sits can be rotten sometimes. Good luck

Like a sleezy bar... liquor in the front, poker in the rear!

Oh and you can fit stuff in a 5- door.
