Title: help and ideas needed
Post by: Oking on 26 November 2008, 01:52
im looking at an 8v gti and was just wondering what i could do to get it running nice with a few extra BHP for a reasonable sum of cash (£1000 that is to spend after running the car) for instance would ITb's be pointless? i plan to get it breathing nicely and i have read the guide to getting the digifant set up properly. insurance is an issue so i cant go for a swap yet..

dunno guys ideas please. sorry if the same sort of question has been asked before.

its this or a honda crx but dunno if i could go jap.

thanks ollie

Spend a few hundred quid on a decent exhaust manifold and panel filter, then save your cash for other things e.g. good tyres or a later engine conversion.

Alternatively spend the extra cash on the car in the first place and buy a minter.

yeah i think thats pretty much the plan. as i love the looks of the cars. and will just hold on for a year for that engine swap =).

this is  a random one how quick is the 1.8t conversion down the 1/4mile? also i hear people are putting diesel engines in there mk2s? now thattt sounds interesting (aka different)

nice site aswell (y)

SEARCH your way to happiness, noob.

It's good to see we're still a polite and helpful bunch to new users, nothing like being made to feel welcome is there???! Oh and if everyone searched everything there'd be a lot less new posts in the MK2 section, it's pretty much all been wrote about already!

If its 90 spec (hazard switch on steering column) then the wirings different and vr6, ABF wiring plugs staight in to the 8v.

Very cheap mod...drill your airbox! Get a 5cm hole cutter and start drilling. That will allow your engine to breath a little better. You will get slightly better throttle response and a throaty induction roar, if that is what you want too!

I bought a '88' 8v with big bumper conversion(shock) and i looked at getting an exhaust as my 1st port of call as the one on the car was shot.VW oem exhaust came in at £250 so i thought what the hell and bought a Jetex system for £299 everyone else was round about the 240-300(remus, magnex etc) check the classifieds as some come up here and ebay(lots of dtm boxes about).Take your time and get a good car as there is a lot of garb out there too.

Spend your money sorting the suspension and brakes first and worry about the power later, its no point having loads of power if you havnt got the chassis to control it

thanks for the help so far guys.

ive looked over a few so far and rust buckets =(

my first port of call is the brakes and suspension, due to my age the car will be a bit of looker rather than a 300Bhp 1.8t monster (*insurance cough*). and im now looking for 90 spec models and up to make things easier in the long run.

gotta love the look of the cars hence my decision of this over a crx =)

,many thanks ollie

hope to post some pics of my motor soon
