Last night I brought a 200yr (w) Golf GTI Turbo, love the car!! Only thing is I always thought the gti badge was in red when its a turbo or am I mistaken?
Cheers guys!!
-
I owned a Mk 4 GTI 1.8 Turbo before i brought my Mk 3 Vr6 :)
Ive always assumed the turbos have a red I on the back where it says GTI and the standard 2.0 GTI's are just in chrome
-
There's a long thread somewhere in this section covering this topic (too lazy to find it) i think a conclusion was made though!
for the record the "GTI" badge on my '99 1.8T is entirely silver.
Chris.
-
just my 2 cents
but the standard 1.8T with 150bhp is all sliver and the 1.8T with 180bhp has the red I
I think. Some one will correct me if i'm wrong though
-
Well if my old Mk 4 was 180 BHP i was'nt very impressed thats why i sold it and got a VR6.
-
well I have the red i on my 150bhp. and I look down on people with all silver badges, maybe I should stop doing that.
-
i've got a 1.8T 150bhp and my GTI 'I' is red........i always thought that the 1.8T was red, the 1.8 GTI was silver and the 2.0 GTI was silver.
-
Don't look down your nose at the all silver GTI badge, It could be a PD150 as mine has the all silver badge.......... ;D
-
I thought only the anniversary diesels had gti badges? I thought the red TDI badge signified 150hp?
oh well
-
The red 'I' has no significance what so ever, its only something to do with lazy dealers that couldn't be bothered to put the all silver badges on, when they got delivered from where ever they originally came from!!!
-
if anyone has tried to replace there badge or get a new one from vw the silver mk4 badge is in the catologue as 25th anniversary badge and the other is just GTI badge with red i, there is a differnce in the prices too the red i badge is more money.
-
the anniversary gti badge is a mk3 badge, if you have a look at my sig below you might be able to make it out. it doesn't look like any other mk4 badge other than it being silver.
have a nice day

i just bought my 1.8t and the i is red with the rest in silver.....the bloke accross the road has a mk4 anniversary and his is the same :)
-
mmm... are you sure its an anniversary? just have a look for 18" wheels ;D
i think the point of the anniversary was to have bits from every car. hence mk1 gear nob, mk2 seats, mk3 badges and the rest a mk4.
-
Just got rid of my 1.8T (w) for the PD150..the 1.8 gti badge was silver.
-
When my mate collected his gti-t he found his gti badge in the glove box, it was all silver, he questiond this and the dealer said "turbo models should have a red I but are rarely supplied with 1" but they soon found him 1.
-
Best to De-Badge and leave people thinking............. ???
-
my '87 1.8T never came with a badge :o, but the on the TT badge both T's are silver with red outline ;)
-
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
as long as u know what it is does it matter ;) keep people guessing less likely to have ur car knicked
-
I dont know how true this bit is, but i was told only the gti 150's and above came with a 3rd rear headrest, but was an option on the rest of the range. any ideas?
-
The choice was either a 3rd rear headrest or a drivers armrest as standard on GTI's .. and i've been upsetting even more bmw drivers since i debadged my car ;D
-
I have the only PD150 that I've seen that only has the 2 rear head rests.
Diferrent subject now but, On my Info sticker is says "EXCLU" after the GTI bit. Anyone know what this means??? Ta, Kev.
-
frosticles, it says that on mine and in the log book it says executive ?!!?
dave
oh btw, my gti is all silver, gunna take it off tho.
