Hello all
I have a rather peculiar question for everyone today. Its a slight hassle but I think im on to something here that has been bothering me...
Sometime. Could you guys pop the hood on your golf's and check the specs of your batteries for me please?
For example. Its a Varta 12 volt with 70AH. Or a Bosch Silver calcium 12 volt with 68AH.
I need at least 4 normal GTi's and at least 4 Ed30 owners to do this for me.
Then I would like to ask you guys:
Does your GTi battle to start? As in compared to other vehicles do you have to turn the ignition for longer to get the car to start or is it immediate start?
Thanks for your help guys.
Mike
**Edit- When you guys check and post up the specs please mention whether your car is a GTi or ED30**
Thanks all

Good to hear its sorted. Actually there was an issue with a recall of certain headunits in SA that were running the batteries flat and our vehicle was one of these vehicles.

I hear the Varta batteries are pretty much just Bosch batteries rebranded. Interesting...
2008 Ed30
Varta 70Ah
Any issues starting? Or does she start immediately? As in you dont have to turn the ignition for a while?
Our normal Golf is run by a Bosch battery 12 volt with only 68AH and it also starts perfectly. Im trying to figure out why it is that some Edition 30's battle to start and apparently its the same for some normal Gti's too...
Thanks so far guys.

I wonder if it is to do with the fuel pressure? I know that the aircraft i look after are a right pig to start if the batteries are low, but if the fuel non-return valve, that stops the fuel draining back to the tank, fails then you have no chance unless you get an external power supply and get the fuel pumps on line first.
:undecided:

I have a ED30 not checked the battery yet as its peeing it down. But I think I know what you mean, mine starts everytime but it seems like I have to hold it on a few seconds longer than in any previous car I have owned.
-
Thats exactly what im talking about edition30. Its weird that only some gtis have it and others dont. You are all running the same battery too. Vw sa are unable to explain it too. Im curious

Hi
06 GTI, bitterly cold in garage and am in dressing gown so not going to check lol but takes 3 or 4 turns before starting, but always starts. Ma last car 1 turn then going, gurlies mini, 1 turn then going. so a bit longer but has always started.
cheers

Does anyone know why they do this?
-
DOn't know what bat I have.
Car starts right away, whether it was standing in cold outside, or untouched in a garage for two weeks. Occassionally the starter motor turns more than a couple of times, that happens very seldom and always gets my heart going for worry. :embarassed:
-
As stated in the other place, have Varta 12V 70Ah battery.
No issues starting up.

I read the slightly extra time to start is a characteristic of the fsi engine. I read a technical explaination and have never thought of it again

I had flat battery problems but found it to be my IPOD if left in the dock .
Only took about two days to run the battery down (left on the drive) which was suprising
Since learning never to leave it docked - never another problem
-
Not checked the battery, but my car normally starts fine. Standard GTI. However, about once a week it sounds like a tractor and is really lumpy. If i switch off and restart everything is fine. Curious :nerd:
-
I have noticed on mine that it starts much better on VPower than Tesco99.
Tesco99 takes 4-5 turns, where VPower always starts within 2 turns.

I always leave my iPOD in the dock - even for weeks when abroad, but I have never had problems with the battery... my iPOD is the 80GB Video one too

yesterday my bog standard GTi with 6k on the clock had 3 turns of the starter motor to start the engine. was a bit worried and remembered this thread. It was a balmy 13 degrees celcius as well, so not exactly cold. weird.
