Title: Ignition timing

need a timing belt cover to time the old girl up properly anyone got a spare?

It's a Mk2 16v

Am I right in thinking you don't have to have the cover to time the lower sprocket - you can use the marks on the flywheel (prob more accurate too!!).

have an after market flywheel with no marks on it what so ever; so am thinking if i get the cam belt cases with the timing mark on it i can align it all up, dab my flywheel with tipex and go from there, not the best solution but better than doing it by ear

good enough to get you close, but due to the dwell angle on the piston its not the best solution.
