Title: carb troubles
Post by: bigman_10 on 23 November 2008, 14:26
hey guys i've got a little trouble with the idle when cold. when its warm its sits nicely at just under 1k, but when the choke is on its way up over 2.5k almost 3k. is there a screw that adjusts this so i can bring it down. i live a 10 minute drive form work and the choke barley gets off when i arrive and its killing the fuel economy. Any ideas which one it is?

ah yes, should have looked at the pic properly!  the autochoke unit is #28, the thing with a wire and coolant hoses going to it.  Check that it gets boiling hot when the coolant is hot, and also check the electrical heater put puting a multimeter on the plug and the chocke housingg, you should get continuity.

ok thanks for that i'll have check tonight. i think it'll be fine when the coolant is hot but now you mention the heater - pressume thats the hedgehog jobby in the inlet? I can remeber messing around near that once i'll check its conected and working. does it plug into the plug on the auto choke unit? if so i think that might be a good starting point. i've got a spare hedgehog i'll see if swapping them over makes life any easier.

no thats a seperate thing, but check that too!  the choke itself has its own electrical heater :)

Took me a while to get round to this but i've checked the choke cover and it gets red hot pretty quick and both heaters have a decent amount of current going to them so any ideas what to do next? i tried loosening the 3 screws keeping the choke on and turning it back but that didn't seem to help? Is the idle adjustment screw number 9? the one with the long sleve over it? would i be able to try and balance the idles out by adusting the screw number 35 and balancing that with the idle screw? I'm fresh out of ideas

thanks
