Title: oh my god
Post by: boogeysheftel on 04 June 2004, 13:16
last night i did a test drive to my baby. I was pushing to the extreme (there
was even some kind of explosion in the exhaust :). Anyway, here are the figures: max speed 122 miles per hour at the 5900rpm (maybe pushing to 6000-6200 would give 125), 0-60 time was only 7, but an extra 0.5-1sek could be added to be very precise.

'90, 1.8 8v digi Gkat 107bhp

Any comments about my results?

I reckon 4 minute egg-timer and then estimate how much sand was left in the top half of the hour-glass?

That's ridiculous!  How can you possibly be accurate with a 4 minute timer?

You need a 1 minute timer, otherwise there's just too much sand!

Maybe he's running larger rims so has a dodgy speedo ... top end of 2nd in 6.5 secs is about right for an 8 valve - should be pulling just over 50 if you change at the right point.

You think 16 / 17's with 45 / 50 profile tyres could increase the speed by 10 mph at that speed ?

Or perhaps your all right and he's been on the magic mushies  ::) ;D

i have already said i don't think 7 sek is very accurate, so i add an extra 1 sek, so it's 8 sek. It's enough to me, having in mind that it is absolutely standart, even with a catalytic converter and only 107bhp. My rims and tyres: "13 ATS rims, 185/60 yokohamas in front and 205/60 firestones in the back.

I pushed her so hard, maybe even too hard..... :)

i've heard that some digifants have more power then it is said on a paper, like 120-130bhp. Maybe mine is also one of those f**k*rs, although on paper it's only 107. That would explain everything.

smaller wheels will give the impression of faster acceleration.

the speedo is only valid if you've checked it off a gps.

mines like that!  ;D

107 sounds a bit down for an 8v, lose the cat!  :P

what smaller wheels? It's 13". I think it's standard for a golf.

can't do. New European Union laws doesn't allow in my country to remove the cat anymore.

13" were sorta standard on non GTI, whilst every GTI i've met has been 14" or more.

If your profile is 185/60 then your wheel the diameter of the wheel inc tyre could well be smaller.

Mk2s have really really vague speedos at the best of times. Mine reads 120 at 110 and stays stuck at 120 till a true 120 when it becomes strangely accurate. And 60 aint 60, its more like 55.

What with a speedo that seriously over estimates your speed, and the fact you may be running on smaller wheels, you could easily of done 0-60 in 7.

If you live in Surrey and want to go to Guildford No Rice and borrow my GPS you are very welcome.

is this gps the same as global positioning system or am i being a dick and missing something?

and how do you use it for speed?

Title: Re:oh my god
Post by: tinman on 06 June 2004, 18:44
yup, global positioning sumert.

to show speed - turn it on :)

it takes about 30 seconds in the open to lock onto three or more satellites. Ideally you want about 6, but it will acquire them automagically. The more it gets, the better it gets. As I only have a cheap Garmin Etrex it'll get down to 12feet accuracy.

It has about .5 seconds delay when working out your speed, so it good for testing your speedo at absolute speeds rather than actually using for your 0-60 run.

by the way, what's with the explosion (when i shifted to 2nd)? maybe the exhaust system is to weak for my engine?  or what?
