Title: Tracing Service History
Post by: UnderSteerDan on 21 November 2008, 14:50
Hi,

Im trying to conform the service history and mileage for a Mk4 Gti i have just purchased.

The car was serviced by a Main Dealer for the first 4 years of its life. Ive tried ringing them on the number shown on the service stamps, only to get a dead dial tone. I have since read on the internet that the franchise had been withdrawn by VW some 4 years ago, shortly after the cars last recorded service.

Is there any other way i can confirm the work carried out to the car, as i have no invoices or proof of mileage other than the stamps in the service book? Also, are the details of previous MOTs recorded anywhere?

Cheers

Dan

Computerized MOT's can be seen on the MOT website. I'll get the link for you..

EDIT: http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/

Thanks alot. The last couple of stamps in the service book correspond with the dates of the previous two MOTs, although the stamps are in a different name to the garage that issued the MOTs  :undecided:.

Hopefully they will still have records for the services and MOT work carried out.

Does anyone know how long a main dealer will hold service records and copies of invoices? Although the supplying dealer is no longer a VW franchise it seems they have retained the Audi part so hopefully they will still have the details of the Golf on record, even 8 years on.

call any VW dealer

my local dealer where my mates work checked out my cars history, found all sorts of usefull infon out on the car

if info has been logged by the technicians who did any work (they dont always) it will come up, just give them your REG number

my car is a 1993 and the info is still on file..

a lot of main dealers take the car elsewhere nearby to get it MOT'D. A seat garage near me takes it round to the local VW specialist lol. They then slap an extra tenner on top of it for the privilege of driving it round the corner!

Try VW UK customer services on 0800 711 811.

Or do you need Mitsubishi?

As kells said call your dealer, they will or should have details on it, mine did and my car is 1996.
