Hey all - Has anyone chipped & cammed  their 8v GTI and not regretted it i.e. thought it wasn't a waste of money for the gains because b4 I sell mine I would like someone's opinion who's done this to theirs?

Hi
I recently got hold of a mk3 2.0ltr gti and previous owner said it had been chipped and claimed 170bhp, which I doubted without proof, but by god it's quicker than standard 115bhp, in fact I would say it is quicker than a vr6 i had last year and quicker than my mondeo st200 which is 205bhp.
To get an idea of the power, I asked a bloke at work to have a go against him in his honda civic type R and I kept up with him no probs.
What I really noticed was the throttle response and torque, it just wants to keep pulling hard right through all gears.

Well not really helpful m8 because you don't have an 8v & I'm after 1st hand knowledge and don't need ur opinion but thanks anyway!

Erm... he's talking about an 8V?? Re-read & try again! ;)
Admittedly what he's claiming is bollocks but he is trying to answer your question! :afro:

To be honest a chip will give you a max of 6/7 bhp, cam won't make a lot of difference unless you match it to a flowed / polished head, the money it will cost would go a long way towards buying a VR6 so unless you really attached to it maybe consider selling up and buying a 16v / VR6.

Try as he might but you & he didn't read the question (problem on here). Just reply only if you've done the mods I'm talking about - simple!
-
You wont get many replies then!
No1 on here is stupid enough to spend that much on an 8v... might as well get a different engine fitted or get a new car!
People are still trying to give you advise so stop be so arrogant and take into account what people are saying... might come in handy one day!

If you care to read my reply, I worked in a VW conversion specialists for 5 years.

The thing is people like you insult my intelligence. Imagine1: there might be someone out there who has the right answer for me but instead all I get is guesswork & opinion from the regulars for comments & my thread gets messed up because you couldn't read. Imagine2:If it was a test to answer the question correctly you all would have failed. Don't take the p*ss by sayin' get a new car, get a vr6 or it's a waste of money because don't you think I know - I hope your having fun with yourselves & you probably can't wait to reply with another useless comment!
-
here is a usefull comment for you
tonyhotel your a wayne kerr, please f**k off
and the guy who thinks his 8v can keep up with/beat a Type R civic needs to get in the real world...
-
Didnt you say in your original post that you were thinking of selling yours anyway??!! And to be fair,if you want real speed or power then that would be the wise thing to do!Fair enough, your original question has not been answered correctly, but,on a forum people will offer advice and opinions if they dont have first hand knowledge,at least by reading these posts instead of mocking them you will have a good idea of everyones experiences relating to the original question and will therefore be able to make an informed decision regarding the future of your vehicle and whether to upgrade it or to modify it.

Play nicely boys......
and I will give you my honest answer (although I havent modded my own like that) a chip and cam will give you 6-8bhp if set up correctly......with added head porting this will rise to 10-14bhp and this figures are about right unless you go lairy on the cam profile and then you'll loose low down toque and end up with a lumpy idle (I worked for a tuning co too that sold piper cams and superchips and although these figures are estimates I gaurantee they will be 99% close)

Thank you best comment on here.

I my opinion an 8v should not be called a Gti! :smug:
Its akin to the Mk 2 Driver and no better!
Anybody spending money on an 8v engine is insane!
And this tony tw@t should either show some respect or fack off!

Who the fcuk do you think you are? n00b! You're not going to get far talking down your nose at people, have a re-think with the attitude.
If you READ the replies you might learn something, as for holding out for someone who has done the mods you're babbling about then you'll be lucky, if you knew anything about the MK3 then you'd know the 8V is the least popular model with the lowest Bhp available.
More to the point, if you're selling it as per your first post, why even bother?
As for the 'problem on here' comment? How would you know, you've only been around 5 minutes.
-
Im feeling the love in here MK3 boys, feeling to love :D
That tony guy is a total tosser tho, wtf his problem?

We tell em straight in here Alan!
