Just came across the front strut brace that seems to fit the GTI.
Made by OMP (www.opracing.it)
Anyone tried front strut brace in GTI?
Is it worth the money?

I've looked into this briefly in the past and the downside for me is that you have to bin the engine cover and I doubt that you would feel much benefit unless you acually RACE the car on track. Awesome have a silver carbon fibre one on display in their showroom, but it is for the MKIV. If it had been for the MKV I would have been tempted

you on night shift John

I fitted one to my previous car, a MINI (the new style), and it made a LOT of difference. And that was just a top brace. If you fit both a top, and a bottom brace, and combine it with a rear one, i think it will feel pretty good!
On my list of things to do for sure!

....
Hmm....I've heard that unless you do track, it's not really worth it because the Mk5 platform is pretty good already. :undecided:

if they made a lookalike Carbon Fibre one,im sure it would already been on his car

^^^^
He could always wrap it in carbonfibre vinyl
[I'll get my coat]

LOL....no wasn't.

if you are driving on track, buy it, if not, you will not feel the diffrence

same could be said for ARBs, I guess?

what kind of a road? Twisty mountaneous road? Straight highway with sweeping turns? City streets with numerous potholes, uneven asphalt, and cracks?

you will notice it on the twisty stuff and when pushing it into a corner on most roads

I seldom do those roads and those things. Therefore KW V2 will be enough for the starters.

If you "seldom do those things" then I don't understand why you are considering KW V2's.

Are all the roads in Switzerland straight then?

I agree strut braces can be a great thing
The zip file contains a pic installed on a Mk5

My worry is the engine cover would be continually be knocking off it !
As well as that the fitting points (wing mounts) , are they structural enough to take that load?
mmmmmmmm

For the looks and for sharpness, less roll.

OH, NO!
My trip to Oettinger, which is usually a normal 140km highway drive, this time was totally different. My nav. system decided that we should avoid all kinds of highways and cover as many mountaneous roads as possible! I think I have covered half of mountains in Switzerland that day. Narrow, wet, steep mountaneous roads, with fog so heavy that one could not see ANYTHING further than 10 meters ahead. And no fences or railings along those roads. I some some gravestones on roadsides, someone was unlucky.
I was scared!
But that drive was fabulous!
My car needs a wash and better suspension. But ARBs, though tempting, are not the priority. KWs I do for sure.
So yes, I do venture on twisty roads, but I know I am not a great driver like many of you guys/girls, so I take it pretty easy.

I know what you mean.. I drove a Mk5 R32 to Gibraltar via Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. In Italy there is a very big hill (a mountain by UK standards ) which I drove up as you can see the whole of Turin from there. I was sh1tt1ng myself on the way up and down as the road was narrow and there was a sheer drop to the city which was far below - and no fences and sharp blind bends in the road. I drove up all the way in 1st gear and could smell something burning from the car when I got up there - probably cooked the DSG gearbox

some guys where hanging on my ass on the way up the hills in the fog, then they passed me when they had the first opportunity and disappeared from view. I guess they know those roads and are used to driving them on daily basis. But I am a city slicker in a classy car (compared to their skodas and rusted japanese rides). :embarassed: But it was fun, especially on the way down in the valley when the sun came thru the clouds.
