Hi all,
Not been on here for a long time now, but hoping someone could shed some light on my problem (no pun intended).
Basically, started up my mk4 gti T last night and had no headlights. Side lights were ok, fogs ok, full beam ok.
Thought it was a bit odd that both headlights were out, but replaced them and checked the fuses. Still nothing. Don't have any other lights out.
Has anyone got any ideas? Switches, relays, other fuses that could have a knock on effect? I'm glad I just wasted the cash on some new bulbs.
Cheers
Lewis

Might be worth replacing the fuse anyway may look ok but coud be faulty?
Or faulty relay? :undecided:
-
anyone got a wiring diagram?, not sure with golfs but some cars (my old MINI's) run the headlights of the same loom Ie wire runs to say N/S headlamp then onto O/S so if there was a break in the wire or water in the plug both would be out,
-
or just thought most likely culprit is the switch inside
-
weird, you must check wires

Replaced all the fuses... no joy.
Where should I be checking the wiring? Any usual culprit points? As for the switch, I'm assuming you mean the main dial? Everything else works on it fine. Does it just pop out and reveal the contacts or is it more complex than that?
Cheers for you input guys, appreciated.

Yeah dont know how you can test it tho? :undecided:
To remove your switch With the switch in the OFF(0) position, Press IN firmly on the switch as deep as you can, hold it down and turn it clockwise. The knob will lock into place and the clips behind the dash will retract. Now you can pull the knob towards you and it will slide out.

Cheers, just found a handy vid on youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYiFWz3yGV8 - in spansh tho. Nay mind shows me the jist of it. Not sure what I'm gonna be able to tell from it though, is it possible to run a electronic meter across to test?

Not sure TBH :undecided: Any mates with mk4s?

Anyone got any wiring diagrams?

Did you everfind out the problem mate? Mines done the same thing
-
Never done this before but uing my noggin and knowledge of how a switch works could you not just short out the constant live with a peice of wire onto the contact that switches the lights on, if they come on then you know its the switch, if it doesnt the the problem lies elsewhere?
-
Im having a similar problem with my mk3. Did u get it sorted dude?
-
this may sound strange but try giving them a good whack, i had the same problem where my main beams wouldnt work, i hit the lights really hard and they came on lol
worth a go!
-
Ha! That would be sweet if that solved it. Worth a bash im sure
-
Mine was just the bulbs in the end, blew 4 within a week, all sorted now
-
Blew 4 bulbs in 1 week
Did they all blow at the same time? If they didnt it sounds a bit suspect.
