Just had a long chat with Phillip from PW Motorsports regarding BBS LMs and Mk5 Golfs. In short, they don't fit. I thought I'd post this to let anyone else know so they don't go down the same road as me and spend ££££'s on something that doesn't go with the car. I said I didn't really want to go near the replicas but Phillip did say however that the replicas weren't too bad for the price and that he had seen x-rays of the wheels and the casting was pretty good. Of course, they are heavier and the bolts are apparently stuck on with some kind of glue adhesive and can come off - probably if the car is driven on a track or very hard. They look so    and I am considering the replicas now. Komenda's car land that car park night shot of the two black and white Mk5 GTIs look stunning with them.

You won't regret it. Not had any issues with mine but just for safety I keep them protected with Zymol Wheel Protector.

where can you get the lm reps, i used to know the web site but i cant find it :undecided:

and me :(

Auto Dynamics in Sheffield near me had some 19" reps in stock last time I went down
19 x 8.5" and 45 offset, 112 x 5 pcd. I was a little wary about the fit on the fronts as there is a little bit of poke, but I'm assured by the shop that they are okay.
They could get silver reps and the black/red rim ones at short notice too.
Pricey though for reps.
-
I got mine from an ebay shop called euro wheels usa. Although the exchange rate was a bit more favourable when I got mine.
-
Will these fit? :undecided:

I'm absolutely gutted that the LMs don't fit the Mk 5 Golf though... they suit each other perfectly

No!
They will not fit either. PCD looks like it is 100mm x 5 and not 112mm x 5.
With a 35mm offset you are also looking at a full 10mm more poke than the 45mm offsets I told you about earlier. :nerd:

Oh, also Illyun, with the LM reps you don't have quite as much caliper clearance as with some other alloys due to their "old skool" design. This means that if you are considering a big brake upgrade sometime in the future, you will have to choose your make carefully as they may not fit on the face.
Before you ask, the ones I tried on the car fitted with the Tarox brakes on by around 4mm at the face
-
my reps are too pokey, thats why i had to have the arches done :nerd: drives fine thow

Where did you get the arches done? Were you happy with the service and quality of workmanship?

Are replica alloys really that bad?
Is there any solid evidence that rims made in the east or where ever are poor quality?
from my own experience i personally would not buy replica rims again as i had some 18 x 8 on my GTI for 4months and the ride was horrid and i noticed my 17s had a faster pick up..
then when i had them removed at my local garage the guy commented on how much bad quality they were
The tires were splitting in the middle and a new tire would not balance properly and the rim wasnt even buckled he had another colleague come and have a look he weighed them and also tried to balance them he thinks they were made with mixed alloy or something and advised me not to refit them..
so anyway after wasting a total of £500 i purchased some audi s3 alloys made by bbs/speedline and i could feel the difference straight away.. the pick up wasnt as slow and also i lifted both alloys up and the bbs seemed a lot lighter
i think you may have seen this vid before, kinda cool..

What replicas did you have? Komenda seems happy with his BBS LMs... and Phillip from PW Motorsport said that for the price they weren't so bad. Of course, that doesn't negate your experience which is why I still have doubts about reps. Apparently, you can get BBS LMs from Japan that would fit the Mk5, but Phillip told me that they cost a bomb esp given that the pound has halved in value against the Yen since last year. He didn't quote a figure but from the way he was speaking it sounded like something ridiculous circa £5k or something
-
i had the monza2 reps..
purchased from ebay, at the time there was so many available.. some from like £200 a set to some at £500.. both the same style design but price range varies?
im guessing this is because of quality? however i paid £450 and had problems..
anyway im sure loads of ppl have replicas with no problems.. i commute to work every day at motorway speeds plus were i live there are many uneven roads and speed bumps so i need some good quality rims and tires i can have some confidence in as i see rims and tires being one of the most important part of the car however illyun i wouldnt spend 5k on them even if they are lms
-
I wouldn't spend £5k on BBS LMs either... rather put that money towards a Mk5 R32

Right, Looking at those you have to think about where your own alloys end at the moment.......and then add 28.5mm more poke
35 offset is still too much
edit:- just noticed he does them in 45mm offset too, so you may well just get away with that
-
illyun, looks like he has the correct size in black. not sure on the red rims though, but they do look kinda mean...

Thanks for that.. I already have a set of genuine black BBS CH's with a red border. I think I'll have to admit defeat because I am getting very mixed messages about the quality of BBS Reps and its probably better to stay away from them and have a genuine set of CHs put on instead.
