Title: Turbo Back Milltek
Post by: pridders on 14 November 2008, 11:55
Hi All,

Ok I have had Revo Stage 1 for the last few months and absoultly love it, cant get enough of it!

Now the question is do I go for the Milltek Turbo Back? I think I can get a good deal in the current climate but is it really going to make a difference to the preformance? Is it worth spending around £800? Has anyone gone from Revo Stage 1 to a turbo back system? Is it worth it?

....

I had the Milltek TBE (Hi-flow Sports Cat + Downpipe) from the very start. At about 23,000 miles I went from stock to Revo Stage1 and more recently to Stage2.

The Revo1 unlocks the benefits of what is a performance exhaust, but Revo2 does so even more (so I believe).

Your performance will also benefit from a better air filter.

Beware!! Modding is a very slippery slope!!

Full system should let the turbo breathe better so giving you the extra legs at top end of the rev range.

I think the TBE makes a big difference in the region of 15bhp in my experience, on my last 3 cars

£800 sounds like a great deal!

No question....DO IT!!! :)

Throttle response will be improved, the car will die out less in the high revs, and a soundtrack worthy of symphonies!

I'll divide this answer into three different stages:

1. YES

2. YES

3. YES

I've got a resonated cat back at the moment, and thinking of going for the turbo cat to go with it. Does adding the rest of the system make any difference to the noise at all. Anyone done it in stages?

Beware!! Modding is a very slippery slope!!

Agreed... no mods on my car for a year and then go the following this morning...

Stage 1 Revo with Select Plus Switch
Forge DV

Now I am seriously hooked.....

Booked for next Wednesday @ JKM
Milltek Resonated Cat Back with Hi-Sports Sports Cat with Downpipe
Neuspeed Torque Arm (comes with the above)
Carbonio Intake
Pipercross Air Filter (comes with the above) although I am looking at the ITG Filters
Whiteline Anti Lift Kit
Stage 2 Revo - got Stage 1 and might as well upgrade to Stage for £49 plus VAT
Koni FSD Shocks and Eibach Springs

well I haven't told them about the last 2 items but a phone call this afternoon should sort that out

Items in the pipeline over the next 12 months...

19" BBS LMs - purchased but not currently on the car
18" BBS CH black with red outline purchased but not currently on the car

Uprated brakes
Carbon Fibre - Badges, Bonnet, Wings, Rear Hatch, Side Mirrors, Front Grill
LED Rear lights
Rear Camera
Quaife LSD

I think that will do for now

F**kin 'ell Illyun

That's going some

A few suggestions too:-

1. H&R springs instead of Eibach springs (I think Neil has these and they sit perfect)
2. High pressure fuel pump
3. Intercooler (S3, APR, Forge etc)
4. Sell me those LM's

Well my Ed30's waited too long watching your cars get treated and pampered while mines being sitting on the motorway doing donkey work.  Its seriously peeeved and wants to play catch up NOW   Oh, I forgot about the intercooler.  Thats on the list too.  I spoke to Keith about the fuel pump and he said it wasn't needed with stage 1 although where I'm going with the mods, I probably will need an uprated one.  I just won those LMs today on ebay for £1270 although they aren't 100% perfect and will be refurbed at some point.

So you think the H&R springs are better?  I thought the Koni FSD/Eibach combo was the best available?

If you're seriously considering shifting the weight distribution around by fitting CF panels, I reckon you'll be needing the kind of adjustment you'll only get with coilovers.. especially if you're having some hurdy-style meaty brakes!

Really... hmmm. OK.  Will speak to JKM about this thanks.  But now you have got me thinking... I don't want to negatively affect the car handling by adding CF panels.  Maybe i'll drop the rear hatch CF - Hurdy, any ideas?

Illyun - I would strongly advise you take Keith and Jim's advice at JKM rather than us lot here!

Don't go rushing in - Better to consider your longer term desires and how your car ends up as a driveable package.

Are they real LM's mate, if so you may have a problem as the offset won't fit a Mk5

I know - I have heard you need spacers.  Hence they may just go on for shows.  Are yours originals and if so what did you do to get them on?

Nah, mine are fakeys. ET45 so they fill the arches nicely. Originals are ET55 IIRC so basically sqaush up against the struts.

The anti-lift kit should help with restraining the balance of the car if you lighten the front end. A big brake kit, CF wings(wings or wing mirrors Illyun?) and bonnet would see the front end lighter by around 20kg or so and so wouldn't alter the balance by too much IMHO.

Thanks for that... I'll just do the bonnet, wing mirrors and grill then.

The ebay auction lists the ET as 25?

yeah those are mk4 fitment, which would need atleast a 20mm adaptor leaving you with an ET of 5mm.. which will put the wheels a smidge over an inch outside the wheel arches

Thinks to self....

*Do I wait till Monday?.....or do I give the game away now?....or do I wait until the meet on the 29th and turn up with them on?*

One clue....They aren't 5 spokes, or any I've thought about getting in the past

I'll start another thread for this and apologise for the thread hijack
