Title: Mk2 golf Gti gearbox

A few years back my gearbox failed and had it replaced,but since then it doesnt go as fast ie the revs in the gear are shorter?

i asked the garage who changed it if it was a origional gti gearbox thery changed it wirth and they said yes.

how can i check if it is a gti or not just a 5 speed driver etc.

theres a code under the gearbox, post it up on here and someone will be able to tell you what gearbox it is.

which gears in particular, or is it in all gears?

1st is quite long 2nd is short 3rd is ok 4th and 5th short

hmm i wonder if you have a 16v box, did they put a new clutch on it too?  best thing to do is check the box code though really!

yes new cluctch fitted at the same time.
