I like this, but I tend to use the foglights when in the countryside anyway as you get a better spread of light.
Neat function

Enabling Cornering Fog Lights Function

To do this first connect your VCDS to the car and carry out and save a full Autoscan.

Currently I have only tested this on the Central Electronics Controller 3C0 937 049 AJ (30 Byte) so you will need to identify the controller you have fitted to you car.

Open controller number 09 and confirm the part number in the field marked VAG Number.

With the controller open select Coding 07 which will open a new window.

As you will see we have to change Byte 23, Bit 2 and Bit 3-4.  Bit 2 simply requires a tick in the check box and Bit 3-4 is a drop down list where you should select 08 Turn Lights via Fog Lights.

Once you've made the change choose Exit to close Long Coding Helper and copy the code back to the Recode Module screen.  Once in the Recode Module Screen you should see the new long code inserted into the white box.  Choose Do It and VCDS will validate the code before writing it to the controller and returning you to the Open Controller screen.

At this point it's always worth doing a quick check for stored fault codes that might relate to the changes you've made.

To activate the Cornering Function simply switch on the headlights and turn the steering wheel, it is better to carry this out with the engine running as the steering is easier to turn.  You should see that the front fog lights will illuminate at varying levels depending on the steering wheel position.

Please note that the functions and bit/byte locations may vary depending on which version of controller you have. If you find a variation please contact me with full details and the VAG part number of the controller and I will add it to these instructions.

Personally I really don't see the point and furthermore I think it could be misleading to other motorists, but ETTO, and I love my LED Daylight Running Lights!

I can quickly flash on and off between my DRL's and my headlights :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug:, so there! Na na nana na!

.... x2

They are intended to provide extra side illumination - For example, to light up that pedestrian on the pavement corner, but I take the view that it's more his/her responsibility to see and hear our motor vehicle with its lights on!

On our cars which don't have swivelling lights, I don't see the point.

....To some people, but my Hella LED DRL's are a passive signal and don't have the glare of fogs and also the LED light is quite different. They are a safety feature and help my car be seen in all daytime light conditions (in and out of dark shadows, poor light, bright sunshine even).

During the many months I've had them, I have been flashed only 3 times, politely told my lights were on 1 time, and never stopped by the Police. I carry documentation in the car which includes the particular European rules they comply with and also how they are legally (Euro) wired.

All new cars will be having DRL's in the next couple of years.

As long as another motorist sees me and isn't dazzled, I don't care what sort of lights they think I have switched on.

@redrobin/ i think your fog light DRLs are an excellent idea..

i have not seen them in person but by the photos it looks as if its just illuminated but not spreading light if you know what i mean..
kinda like letting people know you are there more than lighting up the road ahead.

how much would thi smod cost all in?

i think i remember you saying before it takes some labour time?

....Thanks :afro:

Yes, they are by definition a PASSIVE signal light rather than ACTIVE light which illuminates the road ahead - They are useless at that! But it's surprising how far a distance they can be seen at. I guess a hedgehog would feel pretty dazzled! Other drivers seem to be more inclined to pull over for you to overtake than when they feel dazzled by active lights.

I think it was Dolly Parton who said: "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap" - I think that it all cost about £300 but I'm a 'girl' when it comes to doing stuff myself - I can't even remove the engine cover without help. My VW dealer installed them for me.

Unfortunately my review and installation details got lost in this forum's big crash in May/June. I'll re-do and post 'elsewhere'.

I agree, I think RR DRLs are by far the best aftermarket attempt at DRLs, all others I have seen just look awful but yours look brilliant.

I also don't really like this whole idea oh fogs turning on when you corner . .     :undecided: sounds like a bit of a gimmick to me.

I just tend to put my dipped beam on manually, I've got the factory-fitted xenons.

Am I missing the point here?
