Title: Knocking Noise

My Mk 3 16v has developed a slight bumping/light grinding noise. The noise disappears under braking and when accelerating only to re-appear when I 'back off' or brake again. Any ideas what this could be before I visit my local garage?

might be your CV joing.  Does it make more of a noise when you go round a corner?

Cheers mate - a quick investigation on the work carpark found the problem to be not tight enough wheel nuts - D'oh! Once again I'll blame the girlfriend for nagging me into hurrying up when messing with the car!
