Title: gear knob

i have the gti turbo with the wooden gear knob the whole thing stem and knob move around when changing gear any ideas please. :wink:

I wonder if the metal clip has broken inside?

IIRC, to remove the gaitor, push the base of the gaitor (from the back) towards the dash, & then you should be able to get the base out.  Then lift the gaitor up over the gear knob so it's 'inside-out'.  There should be a metal securing clip at top of the gear stick.

Push this end (nearest the handbrake) in & up to release:-

Now pull up the gaitor & check the clip (which I've circled in red in the picture):-

hi checked both the white plastic clip and the metal part at the top all seems good but the gear kob is still turning round when used any ideas please.

Worth noting 1.4 and 1.6 have different size bores on the gear knobs.

Indeed but as I said its a link in the maintenance section and a I have added the info on gear knobs so people don't buy the wrong one like xtetx did   :wink:

 :laugh: i didnt own a golf back then mondeo tdci was an animal back in the day with a remap it only blew 3 turbos in a month as the map was so aggresive  :evil:

yeah the wife actually buys erm as bought all my mods for the golf the beesh would not get me a new turbo for the mondeo  :laugh: and i have only replaced the engine in the golf  :tongue:
