right. im getting a gti 8v next week, as sharpie replied about my carb icing problems "get a gti", well ive taken his advice....sharpie, thats probably the most expensive bit of advice you've given here.
anyway, next week im picking up a K reg gti 8v, shell has no rust, lowered 110mm on spax springs and shocks, engine had an idle problem to do with distribuitor, but the guy has replaced it and now has a very slight missfire, which indicated the ignition timing wasnt set up properly, so its just a matter of getting the hands dirty.
anyway car overall is in mint condition, electric windows, estoril alloys with no damage at all.
oh yeah, its got an extra 2 doors too
i want to know what extras the run out models included, and also if the brakes were 256mm rather than 239mm. any more info about run out models?
-
some say they have 256 brakes as std, but ive never seen any solid evidence to back this up. it might have a beesting aerial and top tint rear lights, but thats the only special thing the run out 8vs would have got std over the earlier 8vs. basiaclly, have a look ;)
-
yeah it does have a bee sting aerial, rear lights on the pics ive seen it has the 16v ones and crystal ones, dont know wich ones come with the car but im hoping itsthe 16v ones.
will measure up the disc size to see if they are 256mm, if they are, then thats the evidence.

Or they've been uprated sometime in it's life.
-
better evidence would be the list of option codes on boot sticker, if one is for 256 brakes then we have the answer

true.
will check boot sticker then, that will confirm it.
-
didnt realise the boot sticker held so much information
-
yep - theres a code decoder thing for them stickers to.. unfortunately mines not there
-
Mine's a K. Completely standard with original doc's PM me if you like

nice one dude. just wondering if you know if the brakes are 239 or 256?
also, does anyone know if the paintwork is metallic?
and also, does anyone know how many K reg mk2s there are in the uk?
-
is there a decoder on here ??
want to know what my car had :)
Welcome to the GTi ownership club , say bye bye to your money

should be cheaper to run than my 1.6.
carbs are sh*t on fuel
-
my Mrs 1.3 does 1ltr to 13kms
better than my GTi which does 1ltr to 10kms :)
but who's counting eh ??
-
dont know how many kilometers per liter i do, but i got 300 miles from a tankful on my 1.6 driving normaly, and a gti should get about 250 from normal driving if its all set up properly.
-
as sharpie replied about my carb icing problems "get a gti", well ive taken his advice....sharpie, thats probably the most expensive bit of advice you've given here.
nice one.
my second bit of advice is not to buy an 8v.

  well im getting an 8v digi for a good reason. in afew years im gonna put an abf in there, and being digi its a straight swap.

You should be getting far more than that from a well set up digi, around the 400 miles mark is more like it.

wooooo
roll on the good times. got until mid january till i can drive it, so in the 2 months its gonna be off the road im gonna set the timing to perfection, and the CO levels and all that. hopefully its gonna run as sweet as a nut.

i think my 8v is quicker than a friend's 16v but we have had this descussion loads of times :)
the mrs get's about 310 miles per tank :)
i get 248 miles per tank or 300 with super unleaded :)

I thought it was k-jet they were compatible with?
-
dosen't make any difference, you throw the Digi 2 way and use the ABF ecu and you should throw k jet away as well. the post 90 ce2 fuse box just makes fitting the abf loom easier.
-
That what I meant tho danny, don't you have to replace loom fuel pump etc if your replacing a digi
-

not that old chestnut.
-

Only when people mis-guidedly force K-jet on them instead of using proper Digifant 3.2/Motronic.
The poor lambs (the ABFs, that is).
-
yawn
still, rather have a 16v on kjet than an 8v run with any type of ecu
-
That what I meant tho danny, don't you have to replace loom fuel pump etc if your replacing a digi
ether fuel pump will work with EFI,
id rather have carbs than K jet
-
My k-jet gets me about perfecctly well
-
id rather have carbs than K jet
yeah so would i
well anythings better than an 8v innit diamond hell

WTF!
I get about 130 miles out of a tank from my 1.6
Proberly a combination of heavy foot syndrome and a badly setup carb! (and dodgy starter motor not starting it properly)
-
well anythings better than an 8v innit diamond hell
No.
Anything's better than a 1.4 Golf3.
-
Hello, you might find the SPAX ride like sh1t. I had some on my G60 when I bought it, didn't last long.
-
bad news. found out the engine blew up, so i guess i aint gonna buy it anymore. sharpie mate your on a roll, cos guess what im getting next?
yup. 16v.
decided to pay £40 more on insurance and get a 16v. gonna go look at one tomorrow.
-
wtf £40 more to insure a 16v ???? you were ether going to get ripped off big style for the 8v or there lyeing
-
Yea £40 is really good if it's correct!
I could insure a 1.8t mk4 for less than I could a mk2 16v! :lipsrsealed:
-
Might be £40 a month more?
-
Might be £40 a month more?
nope. £40 overall.
It was 1390 for the 8v, and 1430 for the 16v.
-
I can believe that
on an 8v GTI I can get cover for £520 cheapest on MoneySuperMarket...
on a 16V GTI I can get cover for £510 cheapest on MoneySuperMarket...
Go Figure that one out
-
It's all about risk, innit.
£10 says that with there being more 8Vs on the road there are more accidents involving them, rather than the 'surely expensive to insure' 16V, of which there are fewer around, too.
No one said insurance was supposed to make sense.
-
Once my 1.6 dies I might go down the 16v route, or get a family barge.
-
When i hunted around for quotes for the 8v and 16v they came back near bang on the same. So perhaps a 16v should be on the cards in the near future too.......
