On my 16v the engine makes a very loud whining noise, like a bearing, Its not the alternator as I removed the belt and the noise remained. The weird thing is it has made the noise since I have owned it, then the engine went so I put a another engine in, with new cambelt and tensioner, but still get the noise!
The noise goes with the engine revs, and you can here it when my missus is driving it up the road, over the magnex exhaust!
Any ideas?
Oh and I havent got PAS

sounds like its gearbox related. Do it only make the noise when in gear? if its in neutral and you rev it does it make it?
-
Does the note change when you change gear? Also look at some of the plastic shrouding down by the engine pullies. If one of them has been fitted incorrectly, it could be catching on the pullies or belts.

not a 16v g60 engine is it
cam belt cover rubbing?
-
Does it when not moving, so def not gearbox releated..
Could a plastic cover make that much noise?
-
i had it with mine. it was two things, the plate in front of the water pump rubbing on the belt and pulley as well as the cam cover rubbing on a pulley - also not fitted correctly
-
erm, its been there for 2 engines :undecided:
-
clutch release bearing?
-
the misses?

the misses?

can still be gearbox related if it does it not in gear, the gearbox is connected to the engine which is still spinning round even when not moving ;)
does the noise change when you press the clutch pedal?

^^^^
Thats what i was going to say, but you beat me to it
