Hi All,
I know this topic has been covered numerous times but I can't find a definitive answer to my question. I have a stock mkV GTI (manual) and looking at used residuals I've now decided to keep it and upgrade it rather than looking at a new car. My question is what is a good remap package for my car thats gives a good power increase but is still easy to live with? I've got a bit to spend so would like to do the exhaust and don't mind a few other items if required to avoid any power bottlenecks (I'd say budget around 1500-2000). Also its still under warranty so I think one of those switchable maps would be good?
So can someone recommend a package and a one-stop-shop to get it done. Location is immaterial as I'm in the Isle of Man so have to travel anyway.
Thanks
Joe

get the ferry over to liverpool or heysham and get your self to awesomegti in manchester.
carbonio intake
apr re-map
milltek tbe exhaust
total would be around 1600, then if your wanting more power, fuel pump intercooler will see you to stage 2

I've been asking myself the self-same question for ages! Having monitored this and other forums - and RR seems to know his stuff  - this package seems to be just about right, from what appears to be a very reputable and professional outfit. Some time in the next few months...

....Thankyou!! Flattery will get you everywhere!
I've just spent the whole day at JKM sorting out my turbo problem. They've done quite a lot of the engine mods on my car and I trust them totally as VAG specialists.
They are a small family business of genuine enthusiasts.

Is it all sorted RR

From personal experience and excellent results :smug: I'd go for a full TB Milltek and a Superchips Bluefin re-map. I have found Superchips to be fantastic to deal with and Im really pleased with the results. The beauty of the Bluefin unit is you can swap maps to suit you, and updates can be done on-line via Superchips server.
Oh and a larger air intake and free flowing air filter are a must to!

REVO software is very good for the TFSi.
As for JKM, well they are very well favoured by me too. They look after a very, very nice Corrado which comes from the IoM IIRC.

Thanks everyone for your input, I'm waiting for an insurance quote back (Elephant didn't wan't to know with a remap) and then hopefully will be going for JKM's stage 2 package (http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/jkmtfsi-200.htm), but with the APR fuel pump an APR RSC full exhaust, which after speaking to WhiteGTI sounds the business. What sort of BHP do you think I will be looking at with this package?
-
Based on what ive seen so far, considering your also going for the fuel pump - id say around 255-260hp.
Have a look in JKM's rolling road gallery and Awesome GTI's gallery - that will give you an indication of different cars with similar modifications and what they have run.
-
....
Do bear in mind that high bhp numbers are not the ultimate goal - Smooth and well shaped curves on the rolling-road plots, backed up by data logs will indicate how driveable and healthy your car is running.
Max bhp numbers vary enormously on different dyno's with different operators and on different days. It's an indication but my advice is to take note of the whole picture.
As many people have already said here, JKM are well respected and for good reason. No-one is saying that there aren't other good tuners/workshops out there but I find JKM both trustworthy and caring as well as having expertise - Hence why I bother to drive 2hrs each way to see them.
Enjoy! :afro:

echo RR comments
key options could be
1 : can it be reverted to stock (or stock tuners mode) for servicing
2 : do you want to tweak it
3 : Aftersales service
APR / REVO / GIAC seem the front runners imho
I would find another GTI owner in IOM who as already gone this route.
Depends which ferry you are getting and how far you wish to travel.
I would echo joes recommendation with APR from Awesome. But I dont think the location really suits you tbh!
However I dont think you can go wrong with any of the 'main' tuners above.
Give them all a call and see how you get on, ask them specifically if you had a problem in IOM how would they deal with it and are there any support options in IOM without having to make a trip back to blighty?
(Be cautious with the fuel pump upgrade if you have an early GTI!)
enjoy

Please let us know how much extra they want - and based on what criteria (bhp? / % increase bhp?): it's the one thing that may still stop me!

What benefit would the APR Fuel pump upgrade give to the JKM stage 2 setup?
As far as I understood this uprage was only needed if you wanted to go Revo's Stage2+ software.

The FP upgrade (as I understand) may be particular benefit if you experience fuelling issues sometimes due to a setting in a tuner's remap (too high a Boost setting perhaps). This would also show by a dip in the power curve and, I assume, in data logs - Please bear in mind I have limited knowledge in this.
As I understand it, a Stage2 remap might put demands on the FP which the stock one would have difficulty in meeting. You would feel it when driving - Interruption of power when under load or even misfiring.
Currently, my Stage2 is plotting a very minor dip (but no driving issues) and so could be improved with the APR FP.
I hope this helps.
-
but have u seen the price of the APR HPFP!
-
with the pump you can opt for stg2+ wich is an extra £50+vat but will give you an awsome midrange :)

I'm struggling to get insurance at the minute, Greenlight say they wont insure anyone under the age of 25 if the car is over £17000? Any other recommendations for insurers?

did you try adrian flux

Oh?! They asked me the current market value of my car, so I said around 16K based on what I'd get for it now if I sold it. Was that the right thing to do?! lol.........

Just had a quick search through, finally getting round to having a remap done and maybe a new exhaust if funds will allow.
What's the general consensus on insurance in terms of increased premium? I'm 28 with 5 years ncd and currently insured with esure, who I'm sure will not be interested once I ret the remap.
Cheers

Another quick one on this, reckon I'll have about £1k budget.
From what I've read that should cover a remap and exhaust at either ADS or Awesome. However, if I have to do the two seperately, which should i go for first, the exhaust or remap?
Cheers

....You won't get the full benefit of the remap without the exhaust. Beware - Modding is a very slippery slope!
