Title: Amp
Post by: Zippo on 31 May 2004, 14:27
Hello,
I have an amp in my golf MKII 5 doors. At the moment I placed it under the front passeger seat without screwing it in. Would it be OK to drill holes under the seat to secure the amp.

My concern is only theft as the amp is heavy enough and sits there steadily.

Thanks

i would have thought it will get kicked under the seat and also it might get a bit hot there ???

Well, first the power cable is not long enough. Second, I will have to run the power cable on the other side of the car(driver side) away from the speaker cables, and I think it's gonna be a bugger to do.

A question, if I decided to put it in the boot, is there anything i should be aware of before drilling holes ?

Cheers

Hi Zippo,

Some people use velcro straps to stick amps to the back end of the seats (in boot). worth a look?

How big is the amp? could hide it under the passenger tray if small enough?

Running amp cables are a piece of cake. All you need to do is unbolt the dash trays, clip off the plastic trim around the edge of the doors, and then lift the carpet enough to feed the cable through ;)

besides it takes about ten minutes to take out the front and rear seats, then you can run some cables up the middle, a lot tidyer ;)

i just stuck some 3mm ply the same shape as the base of the amp under the carpet to the floor with ducktape and put some bolts going through the carpet to bolt the amp to.
