Ive already done a lot of work to my CL and I wouldnt mind dropping a 8V lump into it, Problem is im not sure on a few things:
A) who could do the swap for me
B) how much (approximatally)
C) What differences are there between a GTI and a CL? Any suspention differences i should know about or anything like that?
Thanks folks ;)
-
what about dizzy's 8v engine and box maybe ???
-
yeah i was wondering about that, Then i would just need to find some one who would fit it, Then keep the insurance company from finding out ;)
-
risky risky ;)
-
My brothers got engine hoists in his garage ;D. I would do it but its just all the loom. Scared it would noever start again.
-
wat litre is your car Fielder?
no point with the 8v swap :P
-
Its a 1.6 at the moment, Im just looking for a motor i can play with, Im sick of driving the slow car of the forums ;)
-
I think we should have a race fielder, see who really has the slowest car in the forum ;D
-
lol you have a driver with a full sound system, I have a CL with nothing but seats and a dash, Could get interesting ;)
-
Yep, sound system weighs just over 60kg. Stock engine apart from K&N panel filter and piper system. Would be funny. where u from?
-
Down south, Near watford and luton, Junction 9 of the M1
I have a rally back box and 8V piping on the exhaust, oh and a custom made Carb. We could Video tape it......and risk being labled as the boy racers of the forum ;)
-
Damn thats way too far south. Would have been a bit of fun. Maybe one meet we could do it. 8)

bit late for u to start worrying fielder ;D
-
boy racers ::) :P
-
Although ive heard that drivers do 60 in 10.2, and MK3 8v do it in 9. Maybe with a full system, air filter and if stick an 8v cam in it, may not be the slowest :D
-
HAHAHAHA! poor Mk3 drivers :P
Just wait till i have a 8V lump and im feeding 50BHP nitrous into it ;D

Thats just a waste of money. Why not just buy a 16v lump?
-
the uprated cam sounds like a good start
-
::)
i think you should get a gti fielder,
start your project properly on one of those, 8valve or 16, just think of the possibilities! 8)
-
i could also join u in the 1.6 race lol, althogh i have got k&n 8v manifold and exhaust, cam, and a webber carb.
well will have by end of today hopefully ;D
-
Have to go to next AMD day and see who puts out the least BHP ;D
-
fielder put a 8v gti cam in your engine, a weber carb and a 1.8 bottom end exhaust etc and it will be ok.
or buy a gti
-
To get 1.8 Litres , you just need to change the pistons and crank from a 1.8 block, and put them in your 1.6 block. As the blocks are actually the same.
-
is the bore not larger tho??
-
no i dont think so, its all about stroke i think ???
-
its all about stroke i think ???
-
mmm theres an idea, but then my carb would only be jetted for a 1.6 :'(
-
you can get them re jetted easily enough tho
-
might look into that if i blow this engine lol, here ed i have fitted the cam carb manifold exhaust and k&n now, got bloke coming out tommorrow to retune it all, cant wait wanna c the difference
-
might be up to 15 bhp now ;D
