Hello chaps,
I've been reading the forum for a while now, so hello to you all. Two weeks ago I purchased an Edition 30. After much deliberation over a std GTi or R32 I found out about the Edition 30 thanks to you chaps  it was then a toss up between this and the R32 I found the 30 to be a bit more of a laugh in a lift of oversteer way..... Yes I'm talking rubbish lol, in actuall fact I found both of them a hoot but I resented the prospect of paying £400.00 road tax on the R32.
The one I have is an EX VW Car (the first owner is actually VW, not a dealer, actually VW), its only 6 months old and has probably had the buggery thrashed out of it by some area manager but what the hell at least the engine will be nice and loose and it goes Really well for 230hp in a lard arse of a car. Overall I'm well chuffed with it. its a really good laugh and if you drive normally I've got 35mpg on a trip.
I'm slowly changing a few things on it, as you can see I've made a few goodies for it allready. I really didn't like the stock gearknob so I made a ST/Stl one and engraved it, this looks the nuts and helps the shift out no end. I am also making a short shift kit to try and take out some of the slack.
I dont think I will bother mapping it just yet as its good enough for me but I HAVE to sort the brakes out I find them really over servoed and just cack I think this a typical VW/Audi trait?. I'm building a kit up at the moment using some Audi bells/rotors and some 6 pot calipers, I've just got to machine the carriers then jobs a good'un.
Check out some pics of the beastie if you like.

Hi LSW and welcome, nice Ed30 you have there! I notice you have a number on your gear knob, does that mean you have a plaque on it too?
-
Ahh my bad, I see its just the gear numbers, here was me thinking you had been given your build number and plaque for your limited edition Ed30!!
-
what do the numbers on it stand for?? have i missed something?
er, the gears perhaps?
welcome mate, i too was in the same boat as you but went for the R32 in the end
there are a few topics about brake upgrades on here if you have a play with the search function, i think most ED30 owners agree that the brakes could be better
-
welcome to the forum and that knob is going to be bloody hot in the summer and freezing in the winter
-
Welcome!
Nice looking car, and like the personal touch's too! Oh and you bought the fastest colour that's why it feels so quick
-
welcome to the forum and that knob is going to be bloody hot in the summer and freezing in the winter
Agree!! My old car had a chrome knob... Terrible in summer... even worse in winter!!
Maybe you could hook it up the the heated seats.. heated gear knob sounds nice
-
What happened to the old gear knob? I might like one of them?
-
welcome to the forum  congrats on the new car, best colour aswell!!
-
Very nice car, im not biased at all
Gear knob aint for me, think the standard one has more character and it is a feature of the ED30. But ETTO of course. I will take the key ring though

Welcome LSWED30,
Nice knob... Hotrod
-
How does your knob feel in your hand?
-
Nice car - liking the gear knob upgrade.
-
cheers for the comments chaps.
She is a beaut! I agree that black is the best looking colour for the golf just an arse to keep clean. Looks like my knob upgrade (oh the puns to be had with that little bezler) is like marmite. Obvioulsy I love it so all those who disagree with me are WRONG
I made one for my Audi before the ed30 and in the summer it's ok, in mornings it wakes you up, but I dont care about that ten mins in and its fine plus my hard shiny knob feels so good and my girlfriend likes it.............................
To those chaps who wanted my stock knob I will keep it for now to remind me just how crap it really is .
I hope to get the short shift kit done this weekend so I shall keep you all updated on that, as per most stuff I make its rather over engineered in a victorian esque way. You got to love a decent bit of machined aluminium even if you could blow it up with a grenade and it wouldnt damage it.
Good to chat to you all anyway thanks for the compliments again.

Welcome to the forum... and congratulations on choosing the best and fastest colour. I was going to add that you had great taste, but then saw the gear knob photos so I've held back on that compliment

Welcome mate..
Nice choice of motor and nice touch with the knob. Reminds me of my old CTR. That was a bit nippy in winter and got rather warm in the summer. But like you say, after ten mins it's fine..
Oh and i'll give you 2 months before it's mapped/modded now that you are on here..
What did you drive before hand?
