hey,
my elec windows dont work on my 16valver!
is this a common fault?
does anybody know how much it costs to fix?
sh!t! >:(
-
Yeah I've had problems with this:
First check the thermo fuse, if both windows are failing then this might be the cause,
You can keep the power, current and resistence through the switch plug, check with Hayes for which pins should be checked togerher,
If the fuse and pins seem fine then it could be the switch,
If you get an open circut across the motor it could be either the wiring to the motor or the motor itself.
Take the door card of unplug the motor and check for a circuit across there, if you have a circuit you can alway see if the motor works by spplying 12v to it, switch the polarity to change the direction.
If your motors don't work then you need news ones.
You might find (as I did) that one switch and one motor are working (but on different sides, putting the working switch with the motor got one side working, still working on the other side.

try the switches first. mine did that because the contacts in the switches were dirty.

::)
cheers for that mart,
thanks for the help dudes 8)

hey, what is the thermo fuse and where do i find it?
cheers mate! ;D
-
also, if none of that works and everything seems to be in order, hit the motors a couple of taps with a rubber mallet while working the switches. they stick/partially seize if they are not used for ages
-
Hows the fault finding going mate? Have you rectified the problem?
alrite mate, ;)
the fault finding is going crap! :(,
i still cant find what the problem is,
ive checked the switches and the feed at the windows and it all seems ok, how can i get to the window regualtors/ motors?
does anybody know where the fuse is for the windows? ???
-
the fuse is in-line with the wiring loom. Take the drivers under dash tray off and look for it. It has a relay with it too.
Do the switch lights light up when the ignition is on? If they dont then could be the fuse?
Blue
-
ah ha!
no they dont light up mate!
so iut could be the fuse! cheers
wiring loom?
what fuse is near to the one for the leccy windows?
im not an electronics dude and im well confussed!
thanks blue ;)
-
The thermo fuse is in the relay panel (at last on mine, and marked so in Haynes)
If you take the knee board off you should be able to get access to it.
I don't have my copy of Haynes at the moment but when I do (i.e. tomorrow I'll post the info)
-
::) thanks
much appreciated.
i went to the garage yesterday and the relay for the elec windows isnt clicking. so is that the problem? ???
he sed he would have to take out the whole fusebox, is that just taking the piss?
i think so.
i checked it out my self and there is no power to the widow switches or the window motors, with this diagnosis is it fair to say that it is definately the fuse or the relay?
thanks for the help again guys :D

a new motor from GPC is a tearfull ?117 after VAT and P&P just so you know. :)
-
::)
bloody hell, that is tearfull
however im not to sur if it the motor because there power goin to them,
ive checked all the wiring and it is intact, surely it is a faulty fuse or relay?
-
::)
whole fuse box out,
surely taking the piss >:(
