im after any tips or things to look out for really a ive never done this before, i want to put the 1990 16v corrado engine into my 1989 small bumper mk2 golf gti, advice?what will i need from the donor corrado?
-
Is your Golf an 8V or 16V?
-
Says 8 in the topic title!

OK then is it K-jet or Digifant?
If it's Digi you'll need the engine loom and fuel pump form the Corrado. If it were me and it has a cable-change gearbox I'd fit that too.
-
An 89 MKII will be Digi and the Rado does have a cable change box.

thanks for answering all my questions for me nick  yer its a digifant not k-jet and the corrado has a cable change box i think, will i need the pedal box and fusebox etc?
-
You can use your pedal box if you fit the clutch cable from a Seat Toledo 16V and the gearbox bracket from a cable-clutch early 90's Passat.
Yours is pre-90 so you'll need to cut and shut the loom as the fusebox plugs are different.

ok mate nice one, cheers for the advice, can i not get a fusebox from something else so i can just plug and play

I guess you're the guy who posted on ed38 as well? but if you find a pre-90 MK2 16v the engine loom will plug straight into your existing fusebox, but you still need a fuel pump and lines from a k-jet 8v or 16v. I think the early 90 corrado pump is the same as a MK2 16v one so it should bolt straight on. The existing MK2 8v lift pump and lines to the main pump plus the electrical plug should all connect staight up to the k-jet pump too.
Gearbox is personal preference, I'd stick with the 8v one as its less hassle, though in the long run if you want big power now might be the time to go to cable shift, corrado is an ideal donor for pedalbox as well. I think the cable shfter still needs a bit of tweaking to fit the MK2, but it should be pretty easy. I think some bolt em straight in with a little chopping and some big washers on the shift box bolts?
Corrado exhaust will need fitting, it'll all go on except the back box might fit a bit weird at the back, not actually tried that so cant say. You could if you wanted fit the Corrado manifold to the 8v downpipe, this would also save movign rack or subframe so the large resonator box fits thru the gap! P{roblem is the 8v system is smaller bore... Choice is tyours, a guy I know did this on his 2.0 9a conversion and he recons its still pretty damn quick!

First impressions from mine suggest exactly that, although not had a proper fiddle with it yet

yer im the same guy thats posted on edition 38, dont think ill be changing the gearbox atm as i want to do the conversion asap, can always keep it as a spare though and do the change later on, only deoing this conversion as i got a whole 16v corrado for £170, also with the exhaust ill use the corrado system but could i use my scorpian backbox off my 8v? hope so cuz ive only just bought it

its definitly worth having 'in stock'
get the pedal box, the cylinder on the pedal all the pipe work from it including the pipes to the brake servo reservoir and the reservoir itself as well, plus the gearbox (duh) and the cylinder on the side o it. Gearstick and cables too tho goes without saying!
Get on the corrado forums, trim bits n panels for em sell for mucho dosh! the electric mirror kit will fit a mk2 except the mirrors themselves and glass (motors out of the mirrors fit a mk2 tho) plus if it has electric windows nick the 1 touch loom & control box out o it. its hard work to remove in 1 piece but its worth it when you get it fitted to your car, the actual window motors wont work in a mk2 but the rado loom will work with the mk2 regulators.

Front seats are also the greatest seats made by VW during that period. Much better than the MKII or MKIII Golf efforts.
WHen your done sign up to the corrado forum and sell what's left. Stuff like headlight switch, heater control panel (The slide type) and other bits can fetch a few quid. Give Chris on here first dibs though!
