Title: PD 130
Post by: Stevie Callaghan on 30 May 2004, 13:33
Hi all,
Anyone got any ideas as to what the problem on my Golf GT TDI PD 130 (02) might be, here are the symptoms:-
1, The noise of air blowing when the turbo comes in on the drivers side of the engine compartment.
2, Poor fuel consumption, only getting around 40mpg, should be getting 50+.
3, Engine blowing out a lot of soot, more so while cruising at 70 ish (2,000 rpm)

Apart from these the car runs very well any no ECU lights come on. Any ideas welcomed. Thanx ???

Sounds like a boost leak, check all the hoses on the air inlet side of the engine.
Steve.

I'll have a good look around. I assume that would give a slight loss in performance too?
Thanks for your help.

Point 2.) may just be the intercooler you can hear. It is mounted in the drivers side front wing and mine makes a fair bit of noise on boost in my PD150.

The noise is very loud like air brakes on a lorry but constant when turbo spinning, but not as bad when cold. Only had the car a week but the dealers (not VW) are trying their hardest to ignore me, once they have your money.........!

:DAll sorted now. It was a blown pipe just behind the o/s headlight. A pig to do 'cos headlight had to be removed to gain access. No noise, no soot, more responsive and already getting 52 mpg driving it quite hard. Thanks to everyone for your help.
