While thumbing through my new Bentley VW A2 manual ('85-'92, GTI, Golf,
>Jetta), I came upon a description of a vacuum/pressure pump that is used to
>actuate the automatic door and trunk locks. Seems to include a
>pressure/vacuum switch, and is encased in a thick foam block for shock and
>noise dampening.
Found this whilst browsing......................

ah i think i know what you mean, does it have a hose out of each end and an electrical plug on it? in the engine bay somewhere?  if so i found one of these the other day, cant tell you if it works though! if the brackets are what you want i'll throw it in the box with em :)

still need to see the pics of the brackets as my hood was lecci but the hodd has been replaced and not linked back up

and missing some bars to pull the hood back but its nothing off the main frame as the hood does go down by hand

Ah no thats not the part I was on about! That is the cold mixture enrichment vacuum switch, it makes the 5th injector spray a bit of fuel when cold and you pull away sharply.  I wouldnt have thought it would cause those symptoms though?  disconnect the plug off it, see if it improves.  Those are more common to find on 16vs, as only the late k-jet 8vs got them!
