I was, bell are great on prices, just make sure you dont get through to the bombay department of their phone system
''its a corrado'' ''a rover?'' ''no, a CORRADO'' ''is that a rover corrado sir''
But yeah, good prices, but not so good on mods, and as such i have switch to brentacre.

not so good on mods? i was mucking around with the quick quote tool adn put the mods that i want to have done on and thought it wasnt too bad tbh
-
Yer i got a quote with Bell on my 1.6 driver and it was £1101.60 with suspension declared which is better than the £1500 ive been quoted elsewhere without suspension!
Just waiting for my renewal in the next few weeks to see what that is!

yeh, but all your mods are pretty small and cosmetic whereas mine is stuff like cam / remap and the like which bell wont cover.
-
Ahh i see! sorry mate.
Are they anygood as insurers go? Im not sure if it would be better for me to just go with the people I know :undecided:
-
I never had a problem with them really, and they do some good add ons like drive other cars third party and windscreen cover. The dont charge an admin fee for changing car either, and will let you add extra cars onto your policy for a week at a time for around 20 quid which is a bonus if your anything like me and chop and change cars a fair bit.
never really had to go through the claims process though so i cant comment on that. Get the right ppl on the phone and they are pretty helpful, but like i said, dont end up in the bombay call centre!
Just be wary of the 10 month no claims thing, not all insurers accept it a a years no claims if you switch provider.
Dec, have you tried insuring a gti with bell? i insured an 8v gti with them for 900 a year on my 19th birthday, you might get a good price then?
-
Yea had already decided on the 12 month one.. will this be ok for other insurers?
yea a GTI was £1500 (standard) but I cant afford to buy a GTI on top
-
12 month was fine for mine.
stick the folks on with bell, makes alot of difference.
-
yeah i done all that got a good price as well so im happy, I know someone who is with bell and has a remap declared? ill ring them when im thinking of doing it see what they say i guess
-
I'm not with Bell but with Admiral, sister company, and here's what I got (they don't pay for your mods, only back to manufacturers spec, but so long as you tell them it's not that much more.)
Age 19
Mum and Dad as named drivers
No NCB
Declared alloys and lowering
10 month bonus accelerator =
£650, however I'm paying £860 because I'm paying monthly, but still a bargain, my old insurance was £1400 and I still had 5 months left, that meant over £700 for 5 months, made sense to do this too be honest, plus I can now lower it.
-
pretty much the same quote i got! if i paid in full would only of been 654 i think, but need to do it monthly
-
bell are crap, end of mate, been there and done this.
Had a crash and they were useless. Dont touch them with a pole mate
-
Well don't crash and all is good
At the end of the day, if an accident does happen, I personally don't expect to come out of a claim with anything other than my health and making sure all legal stuff is taken care of, anything else is a bonus in my eyes.
-
Shady P, with all due respect that is the biggest load of bullsh!t i have ever heard in my life.
You buy car insurance to back you up in the event of an accident.
When a company charges a LARGE amount of money for insurance, including legal cover, then doesnt back you up in a crash that isnt you fault, and doesnt give you help. I personally dont think they are worth the money.
Bell said to me on the phone, they are a company that gives cheap quotes to young drivers on resonably fast cars, becuase they know they wont declare mods and they wont pay out for anyone. They dont take any pride of help in claims, they just get all the customers in, they also f**k you over with direct debits. they said i was unable to pay a £166 debit one month, claiming i had no money, when my balance was in the 2k region. Therefor denting my credit profile.
Bell are a heap of sh!t, end of story.
-
Fair enough you had a bad experience with them man, I know what it's like to go with something because of one benefit or another then get shafted, so I see where you're coming from. Besides I'm not here to get in an arguement with you :)
I'm with Admiral and have declared my mods so they can't fault me on that, and I guess we'll see what happens in the event of an accident. But touch wood I don't have to :D
-
Im with HIC with every single little mod declared and on the certificate. I have the certificate outlining the mods in the glove box.
So i can happily roar past police, crackling and poping and rubbing on the ground with a grin on my face.
Havnt been pulled in my GTI once, and i have owned it well over a year!
But do steer clear of bell, its prices are there to fool you.
-
if you are on a bonus accelerator policy with Bell no other insurer will honour your no claims discount. You HAVE to stay with Bell in order to keep it. Stay with them more than 2 years and you end up losing the lot when you switch

Yes and no. If you are with Bell for 2 years other insurance companies see it only as 1 year NCB as its only 20 months instead of 24 months if you see what I mean.
-
ahh well thats a sh!tter aint it, well not alot i can do now have to wait till i get '2 yrs' with bell and then switch with 1 NCB :p
-
Could aways change your policy to the 12 month one, you'd only end up paying an extra two months insurance and then you should be allowed your 1 NCB.
-
Good idea that ^
-
yeah i think in the long run works out better for me, ill give them a call and see waht i can arrange
-
yeah defo go for the 1 year policy without the accelerator crap. I had 4 years NCB with Bell many years ago and not one company would even accept it as one year NCB!
-
you will be glad to hear off that bonus policy changed to the 12 mth one so no nasty suprises if i decide to change!!
-
How much extra was it?
-
well it was about an extra £200ish  but F*** it i need insurance so works out at about £12 more each month
-
That ain't too bad, besides you'll reap the benefits when NCB starts building up. :)
-
yeah exactly small price to pay
