Hi all i got a digi 8v and my thermostats not opening, went for a drive and warning light came on for low water, while checking level out i noticed the water in resivouir tank was bubbling and i could hear it venting out system...
do u think the two will be related??
many thanks
-
yep - my thermostat went tits, back pressured the system, took heater matrix out and knackered float in my expansion tank.
-
nice on cheers, ill change it tommorrow then...
was hoping it wasnt h/g again
-
 hope its a quick n easy fix
-
me 2, nick will tell u all abt the probs ive had with this engine this year, bloody unstandard engines lol
-
oh, and when mine was getting recovered, i was told the light wasnt just for low water, :undecided:
Dunno if thats true, but the AA man said it was for High temp too, cos my stat wasnt opening, one of the sensors in the engine will trigger it too cos it was overheating
like i said, not 100% clued up, just going on what the nice man said as he tried bodging mine to get me home, but as the light kept flashing with full water after bridging me matrix out he would let me drive it.

filled the old girl up this morning, ran her up and thermostat opened, so would the amount of water in system effect the opening of thermostat???
also during cool down period no boiling or bubbling, im confused
-
airlock :undecided: maybe
-
dunno ive slightl over filled it so when it cools down ill get some water out n try again
-
Yep, if your coolant is low it won't pressurise properly and you'll get airlocks all over the shop.
I wouldn't worry about overfilling it a bit (unless its literally brimming!!).
-
when filling it up should thermostat be open or closed??
would need more water if open??
-
You have to fill up from cold, otherwise you would have to run the engine with no/little coolant to try and get the thermostat to open... Unless you are flushing the system first, in which case the thermostat could technically be open when you refill, if you do it quick enough.
Fill it up cold and then follow the usual bleeding procedure until the thermostat opens, at which point the level will prob drop and you'll need to keep topping it up.
Squeezy squeezy pipe time .
-
nice on cheers thought that was the case
-
what about a faulty presssure cap :undecided:
could be throwing coolant out cos of that
-
its new vw one and blue....
was checked when h/g was changed a while ago
-
cool just an idea , oftern overlooked
-
thanks, please feel free to offer as many ideas as u can, its new cap and resevoir..
i think the problem was down to thermostat as that definatly didnt open yesterday but after i re topped water up today it did, and there was no bubbling inside the resivoir
regards
